James L. Desroches
- - Our beloved brother, James L. Desroches, 63, passed away peacefully on Thursday, September 27, 2018. He was born in Burlington on September 9, 1955 the son of E. Laurence (Larry) and Doris A. (Hebert) Desroches.
He was survived by his mother, Doris A. Desroches, who passed away on September 30, 2018. Remaining survivors are his sisters, Susan Gamache (Richard) of Burlington and Karen Abbott (Nino) of Milton; his brother, Robert L. Desroches (Rhea) of Vergennes; nephews Christopher P. and Brian L. Gamache; his nieces Laura and Emily Abbott; and great niece Samantha Gamache.
He was preceded in death by his father, E. Laurence (Larry) Desroches in January, 1979.
Jim began working as a pharmacist technician at the UVM Medical Center in 1973. He was admired and respected by his colleagues for his knowledge, diligence and attention to detail. We have been told his great joy was teaching and mentoring new hires and regaling them with his stories.
Jim was a good man of great faith and integrity who loved his family very much. He was a helper and companion to his mother for several years, often taking her on day trips to hunt down treasures at yard sales and resale shops. He was a generous man who dearly loved a bargain.
His last conscious act was to call emergency services to get help for his critically ill mother. We will be forever grateful to him for giving us three days with her that we would not have had.
We offer our heartfelt thanks to Shelburne Police Officers Thomas and Boutin as well as the rescue teams from Charlotte, Shelburne and South Burlington for their great kindness, expert assistance and professionalism. No words can adequately express our gratitude so we will simply say, thank you.
Please join us in honoring Jim with a celebration of his life on Wednesday, October 3, from 4 PM to 7 PM at Boucher & Pritchard Funeral Home, 85 N. Winooski Avenue, Burlington. A funeral service will take place at 9 AM on Thursday, October 4 at the funeral home. Interment will be private.
