Brunswick-Paul J. "Tibby" Thibodeau age 90 of Bath Road died Friday, July 5th at the Hillhouse in Bath.
He was born in Waterville on January 20, 1923 the son of Nelson and Etta Clair Thibodeau. He attended Lewiston schools.
On November 21, 1942 he married Irene T. Gamache. She died on July 13, 2001.
Paul started working at the Cabot Mill in Brunswick at the age of eighteen where he met his wife of 59 years. He continued working in the mills for several years but always had an interest in the used and antique car business. However, he didn't get started in the car business until many years later.
It began with Paul opening a Shell gas station on the Bath Road. The business progressed to Tibby Motor Sales, which he owned and operated for many, many years. Tibby was one of the oldest used car dealers in the state of Maine, retiring at age 83.
His pride and joy of all the cars he owned over the years was a 1941 Packard limousine. He enjoyed taking his wife for rides in it on Sunday afternoons. He also enjoyed working outside in his yard and growing garden each year.
He was a member of the Maine Obsolete Auto League (MOAL) and the Antique Car Club.
Surviving are two sons; Allan N. Thibodeau and his wife Virginia of Lisbon and Wayne G. Thibodeau and his wife Ruthanne of Brunswick. Two daughters; Paula T. Ginnett-Temple of Augusta and Lola I. Charon and her husband, David of Topsham. He is also survived by ten grandchildren, nineteen great grandchildren and several great-great grandchildren as well as many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his wife he was also predeceased by his brother, Vernon N. Thibodeau and his two sisters, Pearl T. Griffin and Vera M. Gardner.
Visiting hours will be held Tuesday, July 9th from 6 to 8pm at Stetson's Funeral Home, 12 Federal Street Brunswick. A funeral service will be held Wednesday, July 10th at 10am at the funeral home. Interment will follow in St. John's Cemetery in Brunswick. A reception will follow the burial at the Stetson's Funeral Home Reception Center.
