Clyde Dean Conner, 76, of Cass Lake, died Friday, Oct. 23, 2009, at Colleen's Caring Hands in Bemidji.
Graveside memorial service will be held 2 p.m. Monday, Oct. 26, at Pine Grove Cemetery, Cass Lake with Chaplin Roswell Brown officiating. Military honors will be provided by the Cass Lake American Legion Post. Arrangements are with the Olson-Schwartz Funeral Home & Cremation Service of Bemidji.
Honorary urn bearers will be all of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He was born Oct. 31, 1932, to William and Mabel Hill Conner in Cass Lake. He grew up in the Cass Lake and Deer Creek, Minn., area. In 1949, he went to work for Wheeler Lumber Bridge & Supply Company. He married Shirley Dunning in March 1953 in Cass Lake, and shortly thereafter, he was drafted into the U.S. Army and served during the Korean War. He was honorably discharged in 1955 and came back home and resumed his work with Wheeler's. In 1959, he moved to Park Rapids to manage the mill for Wheeler's. In 1971, after the death of his wife, he moved back to Cass Lake and continued to work for Wheeler's until the mill closed. He then went to work for Cass Forest Products until his retirement in 1994. He enjoyed the outdoors where he enjoyed hunting deer, dark house spearing and four wheeling.
He is survived by his sons, Larry (Linda) Conner, Richard (Linda) Conner and Terry (Bonita) Conner all of Cass Lake; daughter, Linda Conner of Montrose, Minn.; 14 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; siblings, Willard (Clara) Conner of Cass Lake, Viola Gamache of British Columbia, Thelma (Frank) Siegford of Missoula, Mont., Peggy Goodrich of, Billings, Mont., Kenneth (Janette) Conner of Cass Lake, Lois Heath, Missoula and Ronald (Mary Lou) Conner, Cass Lake.
He was preceded in death by his wife; parents; and brothers, Marvin and an infant brother.
