LOUISE H. HANDY BURLINGTON ? Louise H. Handy, 93, of Burlington died peacefully Sunday, March 6, 2005, in the Green Mountain Nursing Home with her granddaughter, Tracy, and her greatgranddaughter, Kara, by her side. She was born in Farnham, Quebec, Aug. 9, 1911, the daughter of the late Henry and Victoria (Fontaine) Menard. On Sept. 27, 1933, Louise married Joseph John ?Tom? Handy in Newport. They owned and operated the Ice Business in Newport, until they moved to Burlington in 1952, where they managed apartments and raised 11 children. She was a member of the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, and belonged to the Ladies of Mount Lebanon Society. She is survived by her children, Theresa Gamache and her husband James of Burlington, Elizabeth Finnegan and her husband John of Colchester, Anita Aguiar of Williston, Joseph Handy of Tacoma, Wash., Priscilla Brassard and her husband Arnold of Newport, Bernadette Caffrey and her husband James of South Burlington, Douglas Handy of Kissimmee, Fla., Raymond Handy of Honolulu, Hawaii, Michael Handy of Honolulu, and Mary Farrell of Burlington; 36 grandchildren; and many great-grandchildren; a sister-inlaw, Irene Menard of Weathersfield, Conn.; a brother-inlaw, Paul Gamache of St. Albans; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her husband, Thomas Handy on Jan. 1, 1987; a son, Peter Paul Handy; and a great-grandson, Tyler LaFond. Her great love will be carried by her family who she nurtured for many years. We will always love you and miss you Lou-Bell. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday, March 9, at 10 a.m. in the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Newport, in the spring. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to either, Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, 20 Pine St., Burlington, Vt. 05401; Visiting Nurses Association, 1110 Prim Road, Colchester, Vt. 05446; or Vermont Public Television, 204 Ethan Allen Ave., Colchester, Vt. 05446. Visiting hours will be held Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. in the Ready Funeral and Cremation Service, South Chapel, 261 Shelburne Road, Burlington.
