  [S5] Obituary. LAKEPORT- Edwilda E. DeMars, 83, died Sunday, April 17, 1983, in Mercy Hospital, after a long illness. She was born Oct 10, 1899, in Pelkie. She has lived in the area since 1927. She married William J. DeMars Jan. 25, 1917 in Houghton. He died Feb 18, 1971. Mrs. DeMars attended schools in Baraga. She, together with here husband, managed the Women's Benefit Association Cam, later known as the F.D.R.- C.I.O.Labor Center, until it closed and the DeMars retired. She was one of the original founding members of St. Edward's Parish; a life member of the League of Catholic Women and the Mercy Hospital Auxillary. She was one of the original founding members of St. Annes's Altar Society; life member of St. Edward's Altar Society; honorary member Port HuronArea School District; and a member of Port Huron Hospital Auxillary. She was one of the original founding members and first president of the Lakeport School PTA; was St. Clair County Mother of the year in 1955; and was active in the United Way drives since the annual campaign began. She was very active in the community and the church all of her life and was very active in the Democratic Party. She is survived by four daughters, Mrs. Harry H. (Genevieve) Schaeffer, Cecelia E. Carson,Rosemary B. McCalmon and Mrs. patric (Barbara) Lardner; two sons, William F. and Gerald D., all of Port Huron; a sister, Mrs. William (Louise) McKay, Ogden, Utah; a brother, Alden King, Michigan Center; 21 grandchildren and 10 grea-grandchildren. A son, PFC Wilbert H. DeMars, was killed in action during Workd War II in the Phillippines. Services will be held at 11 am Wednesday in St. Edward's On-the-Lake Church. The Rev. John R. Hogan, pastor, will officiate. Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery. Visiting is from 7 to 9 pm, today and 2 to 9 pm Tuesday in the Karrer-Simpson Funeral Home, Port Huron. Parish rosary and League of Catholic Women rosary will be recited at 3 pm Tuesday in the funeral home. Memorials may be made to St. Edward's On-the-Lake Church, Mercy Hospital or the donor's choice
