MARY ANN
On Saturday evening, October 18, 2003, Mary Ann (Herron) Lampl, 74, of Sewickley, formerly of Pittsburgh, passed away unexpectedly. Richard "Dick" Lampl, her loving husband of fifty-five years, was at her side. Mary Ann's death was due to natural causes. Mary Ann is a descendant of several founding Western Pennsylvania families. She was born on November 4, 1928 and was raised in West Newton, PA. Her Mother's family the Pattersons and Kellys were original land grant settlers of Southern Westmoreland County who established the First Baptist Church as well as many other well-known community organizations which still exist. Her Father's family the Herrons homesteaded Herron Hill (the Hill District), and were the founders of Allegheny General Hospital. The First Presbyterian Church of Pittsburgh and numerous other existing Pittsburgh area institutions. She married Dick Lampl in 1949 while they were both students at Carnegie Tech. Dick and Mary Ann have five children, Robert O. Lampl, of Squirrel Hill, Thomas W. "Tommy" Lampl, of Sun Valley, ID, Patricia Ann "Patti" Holupka, of Shadyside, Joan E. "Joni" Selavitch, of Squirrel Hill and Edward S. "Eddie" Lampl, of Philadelphia, PA. Mary Ann treated their spouses as her own children, Leslie Alberts Lampl (deceased), Lisa (Monheim) Lampl, Gary Holupka and Lloyd Selavitch. Mary Ann is survived by fourteen grandchildren, Michelle Bringe, Elsie Lampl, Ross Lampl, Sy Lampl, Caitlin Lampl, Lacey Lampl, Cody Lampl, Tye Lampl, Maria Holupka, Annie Holupka, Matthew Hardy, Noah Lampl, Mandy Luther and Sami Luther. She is also survived by one great-grandchild, Corrine Marie Bringe. She has two brothers, Hamilton Tomlinson "Tom" Herron, of Longview, WA and Richard Gray "Rich" Herron, of Squirrel Hill, formerly of Blairsville, PA; she was also survived by many numerous nieces and nephews. Mary Ann took in many people and treated them as family. She was a person of deep spirit who believed that all people are God's children. She will always be remembered by everyone she touched because of her giving heart, soft touch and dedication to family, friends and all who knew her. Mary Ann was the family matriarch with a quiet hand and the glue that bound the family together with a knack for making all persons feel special. She celebrated life with zest and was renowned for her lively attire commemorating all occasions. In addition to family, Mary Ann maintained an active life. Mary Ann worked as a Receptionist for her son's downtown law office until her retirement three years ago. She was also active in many charitable activities including Hadassah, Pioneer Women, ORT, B'Nai B'Rrith Women of Pittsburgh. The Sixth Presbyterian Church, The Salvation Army and Family Links/WhalesTale. There will be a gathering of friends and family on Tuesday, October 21 from 4-7pm at the First Unitarian Church at the corners of Morewood and Ellsworth Ave., Shadyside, Pgh. Immediately following the gathering, there will be a Memorial Service at 7pm at the Church. In memory of Mary Ann the family requests no flowers, the family suggests donations be made to her favorite charity. Family Links/The WhalesTale, 1601 Fifth Ave., Pgh., PA 15219.
