WESTFIELD - Falcon E. "Tex" Barnes, Jr., 74, of Westfield, died peacefully at home on Sunday August 10 with his family by his side. Born on September 5, 1928 in El Dorado, Arkansas, the son of the late Falcon E. and Mattie (Ford) Barnes, Sr. He grew up in Kilgore, TX and lived most of his life in Chicopee and Westfield. An independent and hard-working man, he served his country for 6 years in the U.S. Air Force and was a W.W. II veteran where he received the W.W. II Victory Medal and was also in the U.S. Air Force Band. Tex was employed by Perkins Machine prior to becoming the owner and operator of Texas Mold Company for many years until his retirement. He greatly enjoyed the many years spent as a golfer at East Mountain Golf Course and the dogs and cats who lived at his shop and at his home. His main pleasures were his home and family. Tex leaves his loving wife, Gloria G. (Gould) (Soffan) Barnes; his sons, Robert F. and his wife, Nancy, Kenneth C. and his wife Marianne, and Charles R. and his wife Sandra, all of Chicopee; and his beloved daughter, Catherine E. Barnes of Boston; step-daughters, Elizabeth Edwards of West Springfield, Melinda Doller, and Gale Hopper and her husband Roger of Ft. Lauderdale, FL; and a step-son, Wayne M. Soffan of Westfield. Tex loved his grandchildren, Jason, Amanda, Katrina, Shaun, and Melissa Barnes, Alfred and Nicole Gamache, Joseph Edwards, Amber Hopper and Trisha Soffan; and great-grandchildren, Madison, Shelby and Julian Gamache and Hannah Barnes-Provost. He also leaves his brothers, Robert of Portsmouth, VA and Kenneth of Annapolis, MD; and several nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held on Saturday at 11 a.m. at the First Congregational Church, 18 Broad St., Westfield. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Tex's name to MSPCA, 171 Union St., Springfield, MA 01108, or to Noble VNA & Hospice, 77 Mill St., Westfield, MA 01085. Southwick-Forastiere Funeral Home entrusted with arrangements.
