William F. ?Bill? O?Beirne Loving father and grandfather; US Air Force Veteran LOWELL ? William F. ?Bill? O?Beirne, age 81, passed away on Thursday, Aug. 16, 2012 at Merrimack Valley Hospice House in Haverhill after an extended illness surrounded by his loving family. He was the beloved husband of Doris M. (Clermont) O?Beirne.
Bill was born in Lowell on Sept. 26, 1930, a son of the late Thomas and Angelina (Caron) O?Beirne. He was a lifelong resident of Lowell, and a communicant of the former Ste. Jeanne d?Arc Parish and more recently of the Parish of St. Rita. He served in the US Air Force as a Staff Sergeant during the Korean Conflict until his honorable discharge in July of 1955.
Earlier in his life, Bill was employed at Clermont Markets in Lowell, where he met his wife Doris. He also worked at Raytheon in Andover, and retired from the US Postal Service in Lowell where he was employed as a letter carrier for 32 years.
Bill was a member of the National Assoc. of Letter Carriers, the American Legion, the Knights of Columbus in Lowell, the former CMAC where he was a member of the bowling league and Club Passé Temps where he was the treasurer for many years.
His hobbies and interests included his love of planes, bowling, softball, coin collecting and playing cards. In more recent years, Bill?s greatest joy was spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.
Besides his beloved wife, Doris, he is survived by his children, Ann Marie (Gamache) Mayotte and husband Raymond of Laconia, NH, Kathleen Fortier and husband, Paul of Portsmouth, RI, Theresa Barr and husband, Paul of Lowell, Thomas O?Beirne of Lowell, Michael O?Beirne and wife, Gloria of Methuen, MA, Dolores Fortier and husband, Richard of Oxford, MA, John O?Beirne and wife, Karen of Lowell, William O?Beirne II and his wife, Lisa of Lowell, Doris L. Briere and husband, Randy of Lowell; 27 grandchildren, James, Diana, Christine, Daniel, Brian, Nicole, Brendan, Stephanie, Amy-Lee, Bonnie, Thomas II, Joseph, Jillian, Matthew, Eric, Keith, Casey, Jevohn, Deveny, Kory, Carrianne, Meaghan, Patrick, Emilie, Keely, Gregory, Heather; and nine great-grandchildren: Kylie, Alex, Marcus, Pheonix, Eden, Jordan, Garrett, Nathan, Isabelle.
He is also survived by a sister, Lillian D. O?Beirne of N. Chelmsford; a brother-in-law, Louis Boucher of Nashua, NH; also many nieces and nephews.
He was the brother of the late John O?Beirne, Sr. Florence O?Beirne, DW, Pearl Boucher, Gertrude O?Beirne, Sr. Irene O?Beirne, DW, and Theresa O?Beirne. He was the father-in-law of the late Roger Gamache.
Bill?s family would like to express their sincere gratitude to the staff and caretakers of Northwood Nursing Home of Lowell, the Merrimack Valley Hospital and the Merrimack Valley Hospice House, both of Haverhill for the exceptional care he received.
