Carl S. Mohar
Carl S. Mohar, age 91, of 1603 S 19th Street Sheboygan, died peacefully on Saturday July 1, 2006 at Sheboygan Progressive Healthcare Center where he had been a resident for the last 9 days. He was born on June 20, 1915 in Sheboygan, a son of the late Carl and Johanna (Nagode) Mohar Sr. He attended SS Cyril & Methodius Grade School and the Sheboygan Trade School. As a young man, Carl joined the CCC workforce at Scott Lake Camp near Three Lakes Wisconsin.
Emma Oehlberg and Carl Mohar were united in marriage on May 20, 1939 at SS Cyril & Methodius Church. She preceded him in death on July 16, 2004. During WWII, Carl worked for a military contractor in the Aleutian Islands building Airplane hangars, later at the Burger Boatyard in Manitowoc. After the War, He joined with his Father and Brother in a local Construction Company, Carl Mohar & Sons. He joined the Carpenters Union Local No 657 of which he held offices as Recording Secretary and a Delegate to the Trades Council
In 1949, Carl was elected as an alderman, representing the 5th Ward in the Sheboygan Common Council. He served as alderman, not in consecutive terms, but for a total of about ten years. In later years, Carl worked as a carpenter foreman on several large Sheboygan building projects including the Edgewater Power Plant and Sunny Ridge Retirement Home, as well as the Sheboygan Waste Water Plant. In 1961, he was elected as the Business Agent for Local 657, which he held until 1980.
In retirement, Carl couldn't wait to go to his favorite retreat in "God's Country," Popple River, WI where he enjoyed fishing and hunting with his canine companions. He enjoyed his times with his sons at their annual deer hunt, which they did over 35 years. Carl was a life member of SS Cyril & Methodius Catholic Church, and retired member of the Sheboygan Falls Conservation Club.
Surviving Carl are three sons; Michael of Sheboygan, Patrick (Connie) of Lake Stevens, WA and Thomas (Min Cha) of Sheboygan Falls; four daughters, Janet Aponte of Danville, VA, Suzette (Dennis) Peterman of Sheboygan, Victoria (Kenneth) Reed of Kenosha and Lorie (George) Kelling of Conover, WI; eight grandchildren, Margo, Kenneth, Stacey (Rev. Clifford) Bresse and Naomi (Eric) Arndt, Emma and Sara Reed, Sean and Aaron Kelling: three great-grandchildren, Rebekah, Rachel and Ruth Bresse. He is further survived by one brother-in-law, Richard (Barbara) Oehlberg of Solon, OH; three sisters-in-law, Esther Becker, Virginia (Glenn) Anderson and Jane Mohar, all of Sheboygan. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Kazmir and Robert and one sister, Isabelle Knocke.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated for Carl on Wednesday July 5, 2006 at SS Cyril & Methodius Catholic Church at 10:30 a.m.. Reverend Glenn Powers, pastor, will be celebrant. Entombment will follow at Holy Cross Mausoleum. Friends may call at the CHURCH on Wednesday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the Mass.
A memorial fund has been established in the name of Carl S. Mohar.
