Joseph Laurent "Larry" Gamache
1946-2020
Joseph Laurent "Larry" Gamache ? 74, Truro, formerly of Upper North River, passed away peacefully on Thursday morning, September 10, 2020, at Colchester East Hants Health Centre, Truro. Larry made the decision to die with dignity and on his own terms with the assistance of MAID, following a lengthy illness with ALS.
He served in Royal Canadian Air Force for 33 years. Following his career with RCAF, he worked as a Commissionaire at Colchester Regional Hospital for 13 years from where he retired. In his retirement years, he enjoyed getting together with "The Old Farts" coffee club at Roadside Willies on Wednesdays. Being very musical from a young age, he enjoyed playing the violin and singing. Larry and his wife, Evelyn, enjoyed many happy years together with their family; moving from place to place with multiple children and pets always ensured a level of chaos and adventure.
Larry is survived by his children, Kirk Nichol, Ontario; Steve (Darlene) Gamache, Hubley; Wendy (Katie) Holmes, Quispamsis, New Brunswick; Bill (Kathy) Gamache, Hubbards; grandchildren, Chrissy Gamache, Timberlea; Troy Pye (Amber), Halifax; Adam Gamache, Halifax; Jillian (Colton) DeCoste, Halifax; Brendan Gamache, Halifax; great grandchildren, Kaeli McCormick, Timberlea; Sean Todd, Middle Sackville; Tiarnan Keating, Middle Sackville; siblings, Gaëtan (France) Gamache, Lyse Gamache, Monique (Alain) Rioux, Thérèse (Pierre) LeClerc, Jacques (Janet) Gamache, Yvon Gamache, all of Quebec; several nieces and nephews. Our thoughts are with Larry?s family in Quebec who would like to be here to support us, however, because of Covid-19 restrictions, that is not possible. We would also like to extend our heartfelt thanks to the staff at Parkland Estates (Fergus Hall) who made Larry feel so much at home and Dr. Donald Rowe and the entire Palliative Care Team for their phenomenal care and compassion while ensuring Larry?s last wishes were carried out.
