William (Bill) C. Wettach, age 91, passed away on August 22, 2021 at Community Hospice, Baptist South Medical Center. He was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania on October 27, 1929.
Bill attended Shaler High School, Pittsburgh and graduated from Carnegie Institute of Technology with a degree in civil engineering. After graduating from college, he served his country in the Army Corps of Engineers during the Korean Conflict and was awarded the bronze star.
Upon his return from Korea, Bill began his professional career with the Pennsylvania Railroad as a junior civil engineer and worked for the railway system for 39 years, ending his career with the New Jersey Transit Authority as Assistant Vice President. He and his wife, Mary, retired to St. Augustine.
In his spare time Bill enjoyed crafting and building beautiful furniture pieces but he was most proud of his extensive stamp collection, compiling over 100 professional quality albums.
Bill was preceded in death by his wife of 51 years, Mary M. Wettach.
He is survived by his children, Mary Cole (Glenn), St. Augustine, James Wettach (Lynn), St. Augustine, Ann Lukens (Howard), Atlanta, 6 grandchildren and one great granddaughter.
St. Johns Family Funeral is in charge of the arrangements but due to present conditions, a Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations to Anastasia Baptist Church 4 Generations to Come Building Fund would be appreciated.
