Beloved husband, father and grandfather passed away Monday, September 24, 2007 with family by his side at the age of 77. John was born May 15, 1930 to the late James and Nellie (Solinski) Walraven. He was united in marriage to the former Phyllis M. Bouchard August 1, 1953 in Tawas, she survives him. John was a farmer all his life; born and raised in Hampton Township, aside from his time in the U.S. Army, he spent his life cultivating the family farm. He was a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church and the League of Catholic Women and Men.
Surviving besides Phyllis, his loving wife of 54 years, are his four children: Ronald Walraven of Las Vegas, NV, Diane (Bob) Fillmore of Essexville, Dawn (Bill) Horner of Clarkston, and Mark (Tina) Walraven of Essexville; five grandchildren: John Fillmore, Elyse and Jarred Horner, and Amanda and Aimee Walraven; one brother William (Marlene) Walraven; two sisters Leona Rybak, and Geraldine King; his sister-in-law Viola Walraven; and several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, John was preceded in death by three brothers James, Anthony (Helen), and Edward Walraven, and two brothers-in-law Eugene Rybak and Robert King.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the Staff of BRMC 3rd Floor and Bay Special Care Hospital for the loving care shown to John.
The Funeral Liturgy will take place 11:00 a.m. Thursday, September 27, 2007 at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church. Rev. Fr. Patrick C. O'Connor will officiate with Rite of Committal to follow in St. Patrick Cemetery. Friends may call at the Stapish Cederberg Funeral Home East on Wednesday from 2:00 until 8:00 p.m. where a Vigil for the Deceased will take place at 7:00 p.m. John will lie in state at church on Thursday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of Mass. Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorials to the St. John Building Our Legacy Drive.
