DONALD BRULE OBITUARY
Donald Paul Brule', 89, of Yakima, went home to his Heavenly Father on Monday, October 31, 2022, while at home with his family. He was born January 12, 1933, in Yakima, Washington, to Arthur and Helen (Auve') Brule', and was raised at the family ranch, along Occidental Road with his sister, Lorraine.
Don began his early education at Ahtanum Grade School and finished at St. Paul's Catholic Grade School, then Marquette High School, graduating in 1951. He then moved to Seattle to complete his degree in Commerce and Finance at Seattle University, while training in the ROTC program. He graduated in 1955 and was commissioned an Officer in the Army. He was assigned to an Ordnance Park in Germersheim, Germany, and was able to travel through Central Europe for two years, organizing and assisting with Ordnance Bunker inspections. He felt fortunate for the experience during a time of peace.
Don met Sylvia Gamache in the fall of 1958 while attending a J.C. dance. He presented her with an engagement ring August 8, 1959, while in the sanctuary of St. Joseph Catholic Church, as he wanted their faith to be central to their relationship. They entered the Sacrament of Holy Matrimony January 9, 1960, at Holy Rosary Church in Moxee, Washington.
Don and Sylvia began their life together as orchardists in Ahtanum, taking over the Arthur Brule' farm after Don's parents retired. They had four children over the next season of life. Don worked his way out of farming in 1964 and changed directions, working in landscaping, until he had his own business, "Landscaping by Don." He grew his investments into ownership and management of income properties. Don loved to snow ski and taught his children.
Kids grown, Don and Sylvia turned their sights towards leadership in programs through Holy Family Catholic Church, such as Curcio, Marriage Encounter, prayer meetings, and Life in the Spirit Seminars. Don was a lifelong advocate of Catholic Christian education. The parish of Holy Family supported the mission of Father Goudy in Myanmar (Burma), Asia to support a school for orphaned boys. For 20 plus years Don and Sylvia helped to coordinate fund raising and transfer of funds to the school.
Don and Sylvia were blessed to have been able to travel to many places, and enjoyed wintering at their home in Sun City, Arizona, where they played golf and enjoyed family and friends.
Don lived his life as an example to us all of faith, love, conviction, inspiration, and support. He will be missed. He asked many times over the past years to "go home." We are comforted now to know he is finally there.
Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Sylvia Marie (Gamache) Brule', his children and their spouses, Lisa M. (Brule') and Mervin Chambers, of Yakima, Washington, Monica M. (Brule') and Gregg A. Nelson, of Hansville, Washington, Mark D. and Catherine M. (Moser) Brule', of Phoenix, Arizona, and Brenda J. (Brule') and Greg Ahmann, of Moscow, Idaho, 15 grandchildren, and 12 great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Helen Brule', his sister, A. Lorraine Brule', with her children, Susan McKenna, and Dean Brule'.
A Funeral Mass will be held on Thursday, November 17, 2022, at 10:00am at Holy Family Catholic Church. There will be a Rosary at 9:15am before the Mass.
