Jerry A. Stokes
1929 - 07
Jerry A. Stokes, 80, of Parks Township, passed away Thursday, Jan. 7, 2010, at Armstrong County Health Center, Kittanning, surrounded by his loving family. Born July 16, 1929, in Vandergrift, he was the son of the late Claude and Mary Laverne Stokes. Jerry was the beloved husband of Ellen (Supansic) Stokes for 52 years; father of Charleen (Tim) Polka, Cathleen (Robert) Geer, Colleen Grimm, Claudeen (Mike) Mink, Jerry (Lisa) Stokes Jr., and Christeen Cesario. Jerry was a 1947 graduate of Vandergrift High School. He served in the 115 Navy Korean War and retired from Ferraccio's Shop-n-Save grocery stores. He was a member of St. Gertrude Roman Catholic Church, Vandergrift, and a member of the Knights of Columbus. Survivors also include his 13 grandchildren, Timothy Jr. and Courtney Polka, Melissa Geer, Chelsea, Kayla and David Grimm, Resha Riggle, Michael and Jacob Mink, Zachary and Hannah Stokes and Kieara and Karisa Cesario; two great-grandchildren, Aydin and Braydon; a brother, John (Fred) Stokes; and three sisters, Ida Misho, Imogene Stroup and Edna Boucher. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by infant daughter, Maryanne; and a brother, Claude Stokes Jr. Visitation from 1 to 3 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the DUNMIRE-KERR FUNERAL HOME INC., 244 Franklin Ave., Vandergrift. Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Monday in St. Gertrude Catholic Church, Vandergrift, with Father James Loew, OSB, as celebrant. Entombment will be in St. Gertrude Cemetery, Vandergrift. The Knights of Columbus will hold a service at 7:45 p.m. Sunday in the funeral home. Memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, Greater Pennsylvania Chapter, 1100 Liberty Ave., Suite E-201, Pittsburgh, PA 15222.
