FAIRHAVEN ? Leona B. (Fleurent) Duchesneau, 100, of Fairhaven, died Monday, May 14, 2007, at Our Lady's Haven, Fairhaven. She was the wife of the late Alban A. "Duke" Duchesneau and daughter of the late Joseph and the late Rose (Rochefort) Fleurent. She was a communicant of St. Joseph's Church in Fairhaven where seven generations of her family worshiped. She attended Fairhaven High School.
Mrs. Duchesneau was employed as a bookkeeper at Topsall Bakery, Deneault's Bakery, Lissak Shoe Company, St. Joseph's School and Duchesneau Insurance Claim Service which she co-owned with her husband. She was a member of the Bishop Regan Club and the East Fairhaven Improvement Association.
To know Leona was to love her. She was devoted to her family, for whom no sacrifice was too great. She was a woman of unfailing love, compassion, humor and generosity, with an abiding faith in God, and who treasured and respected all living things. She will be remembered as a gracious hostess, for her fabulous parties, as a loving mom and "memere" and for her lovely soprano voice. Her life was an inspiration to all who knew her.
Survivors include two daughters, Leona Blouin and her husband, Roland and Florence Gamache, all of Fairhaven; 10 grandchildren, Joe and Paul Blouin of Florida, Mark Blouin of Marion, Raymond, Matthew and James Gamache of Fairhaven, Miriam Manley and Martha Guillotte of New Bedford and Kristin Robidoux of Fairhaven; 28 great grandchildren; eight great great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
She was pre-deceased by a son, Alban "Bill" Duchesneau, Jr., a grandson, John R. Gamache, a son-in-law, Raymond Gamache, five brothers, Joseph, Ulric, Alfred, Leo and Henry Fleurent and a sister, Beatrice Fleurent.
Her funeral will be Friday at 10:30 AM from the Fairhaven Funeral Home, 117 Main St., Fairhaven followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:30 AM in St. Joseph's Church, Fairhaven. Interment will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery #2, New Bedford. Calling hours are Thursday from 5-8 PM.
