- Normandine Poirier, daughter of Norbert Poirier and Rosanna Blain was born in Beloeil, Quebec in 1896, December 20. In 1911, she came to Cold Lake, Alberta with her parents, sisters and brothers.
She married Paul Sauve Laplante on the 25 of May 1916. He was the son of Francois Sauve Laplante and of Marie Trottier born in Valleyfield, province of Quebec.
Normandine and Paul cleared themselves a homestead and later on they bought Joseph Aubry's place where there were only 20 acres cleared. In 1929, they built the house which still stands and where they moved their family.
Out of this union, came ten children - six boys and four girls. Their first child was Bertha, born March 2, 1917. She died December 25, 1918 during the First World War. Elzear, their sixth child was born December 31, 1926 and died in November of 1949. He was a member of the Princess Patricia's Canadian Light Infantry as a paratrooper. He died while on vacation at; his parents' home by accident.
Paul senior died February 3, 1960. His memory is cherished by all and as a result the youngest was baptised Francois Laplante in memory of his grandfather. In his turn, Francois named his firstborn Paul in honour of his father.
