601 "Infantile Debility" Gamache, Marie Delia Aveline (I73337097)

602 "James Stroble Myers, one of the ablest jurists of western Pennsylvania, and familiarly know as Colonel Myers, was a descendant of Frederick Myers .... James S. Myers, the youngest of a family of thirteen children, was born on the 9th day of June, 1813. He remained with his parents until January 12, 1828, at which time he came to Franklin, his father having indentured him to Nathaniel Cary to learn the tailor's trade. After becoming proficient in that calling, he worked three years as a journeyman tailor at Brownsville, Blairsville, and other places in the western part of the state, and in 1832 located in Franklin, opening a shop on Thirteenth street, near Liberty, where he carried on a successful business for some years.

On the 8th of April 1831,he married Miss Emily Bunnell, daughter of Samuel and Elizabeth (Davis) Brunnell. It was at this period that Mr. Myers developed those qualities of energy, application, and systematic endeavor which were the foundation of his subsequent success in life. Owing to the lack of educational facilities at that time he had been obliged to start out in the world with a limited knowledge of books, and with no capital save a stout heart and strong physical constitution, and the mother-wit and common sense inherited from his parentage. While attending the demands of his shop he laid out a course for his future which seemed hedged with difficulties, but which he resolutely carried out. Although carrying on his shop and already married, with a growing family, he decided to become a lawyer."

-History of Venango County, Pennsylvania (1890)."

Obituary in the Venango Spectator 22 Oct 1885:

"Myers, Col. James S., died at his residence on Elk St., Nov 20, 1885. Col. Myers was born in 1813, in that part of Richland Twp., now incorporated in Clarion County. At quite an early age he came to Franklin and served a three year apprenticeship to Nathaniel Carey, the well-known tailor of that time. In 1834 he married to Miss Emily Bunnell, daughter of the late Samuel Bunnell, of Sandy Creek Twp. His wife survives along with 4 sons, and one daughter, Mrs J.D. Chadwick." -- Gale Myers.

604 "Tonight someone has to be happier because of me." This is the goal given each morning to his awakening, Madame Cécile Grondin Gamache, painter, self-taught. Once in the evening, she does not forget to take stock of her day.

It's August 15 (1930) in Sainte-Marie de Beauce, after having five boys, that Albert Grondin and Leda Bisson finally welcome in the world their first little girl: Cécile. Five other boys follow before Mrs. Grondin gives birth to three girls and a boy.

As a child, Cécile Grondin Gamache collects all the objects she can to try to revive them. She tells her mother most seriously that when she grows up she will surely do something good. In the meantime, she learns to work by supporting her mother and goes to primary and secondary school in Ste-Marie.

Married very young in (1948) Maurice Gamache, (1923-2011) she gave birth to two boys and a girl died at 9½ months during a fire on their property.

She continues, over the years to maintain her great dream as a little girl, that of telling the laborious history of our ancestors beaucerons. In order to express how she feels, she tries all kinds of crafts, from crochet to macrame. But it is in painting that she finally finds satisfaction. Supported by a husband and sons "in gold", she begins to paint.

During this time, she still occupies the function of sacristan from 1956 to 1984 and she paints. Her best lessons, she admits having taken in contact with her parents and the best school for her, it is the elderly. It is also after their story about the life of yesteryear that she produces her paintings. The old men are for her a "lit lamp" on the past.

She visits seniors as often as possible with whom she has a friendly relationship. In 1985, Mrs. Grondin Gamache produced a book of old recipes collected from seniors. All profits from the book went to the seniors of the Sainte Marie Reception Center. Old-fashioned dishes, Imprimerie Bô-Modèle inc., Scott-Jonction, 1985.

Her first exhibition, it is Robert CIiche who pushes her to organize it. Since then, she has had 14 solo exhibitions in all corners of Quebec, in Ottawa and in Europe, more specifically in Paris. She adds 15 group shows in most provinces from Canada to Yellowknife in the Yukon. We must not forget her participation in several books and representation in 15 museums in Quebec.

607 'PIT' GAMACHE REMEMBERED AS LONG-TIME SERVANT TO THE PUBLIC By Kristen Asiala-Taylor Associate Editor A long-time politician in the Manistee area, Donald "Pit" Gamache died Tueesday, May 8. He was 76. Gamache was fondly remembered by his colleagues as a businessman who was dedicated to public service. He was presently serving a term as Fourth District Manistee County Commissioner, and he has a long history of affiliation with government in the city of Manistee. He served on the City Council in each of the last four decades in 1968, 1974, in the 1980's and the early 1990's. He also served as mayor of the city. Prior to his current term on the county board, he additionally served on the Manistee Area Public School Board, County Tax Allocation Board, Manistee Harbor Commission, County Board of Supervisors, the March of Dimes and the American Red Cross. He was especially known for his work in organizing the local National Guard unit, establishing Security National Bank in Manistee, and securing funding for the Maple Street Bridge construction, local industries and the Century Terrace apartments. "Don was quite an indiviual," said Dick Raskey, who has known Gamache since 1931. "He's been very conscientious in public service. He's an outgoing person and everybody seems to like him. "I think he's contributed quite a bit to the Manistee area in his service as Mayor, on the council and on the county commission.... I'm going to miss him; I think a lot of people will." Chester Glocheski, former city manager and friend, said Gamache was "always positive, always working for something in a positive manner. "We lost a person that was progressive and community-minded." Sylvester "Buck" Flarity said Gamache was active in the Democratic Party for many years. He met him in 1948 when Gamache was a candidate for State Representative. "I knew him through politics and I also knew him as a friend." Flarity said. "I could always count on him if I needed help, no matter what I needed. If he was a friend today, he was a friend tomorrow. "...We never asked Pit anything that he wouldn't do for the city of Manistee, the county or for people he could help." Raskey said he and Gamache always joked about their political affiliations. Raskey is a Republican and Gamache was a strong Democrat. "We'd always go at it," Raskey said, "but it was always in a good way...It was always good to exchange views. We had many good conversations along political lines." Carl Rutskee, vice-chairman of the Manistee County Board of Commissioners, said Gamache was known for his wink. "When he wanted something done and he meant business, he'd give you that wink," Rutske said, "and you knew it had to be done." City Manager Ben Bifoss described Gamache as a "thoughtful" councilman. He didn't talk very often, but when he did, people listened. He was a voice for progress. He was also a voice for moderation at times, but always forward." Bifoss said Gamache was very involved in projects promoting tourism, including construction of the River Walk, as well as many hearings for the Harbor Village development. Glocheski also remembered that Gamache traveled to Washington D.C. to meet with Sen. Phillip Hart when the city had problems obtaining grant money for the Maple Street bridge in the past. Ralph Adamski first met Gamache when he owned the Wholesome (sic) Bakery Co. on First Street, Manistee, 56 years ago. Adamski later did business with him through his beer distributorship, and they struck up a friendship. He remembers the good times at deer camp, when Gamache would brew up his famous split pea soup. "He used to like to cook," Adamski said. "Different groups would come out and he would entertain them....A lot of people liked Pit." Adamski would later become partners with Gamache in the operation of the former Dry Dock Supper Club. Gamache was also the owner of the Pit Stop Lounge and Dockside Restaurant in Manistee, and over the years as a businessman had employed numerous people in the local area. Gamache would have celebrated his 77th birthday this Friday. Gamache, Donald Louis (I4266)
