108	Francis B. Duffy, beloved father, brother, grandfather and uncle went to join his sons, Dan and Joe in heaven on August 31, 2019. Francis was born on March 22, 1933 to William and Pearl (McMenamin) Duffy in Menomonie, WI. He married Mary Super in 1952 and they later divorced. He worked for NSP for 32 years. In retirement he enjoyed traveling and taking cruises with his daughters and their spouses. He loved to sit and watch the deer and other wildlife from his house on the hill. He is survived by daughters, Deborah (Richard) Johnson, Eau Claire, and Colleen (Donald) Kirschner, Black River Falls; son, Larry (Jodi) Duffy, Lawton, OK; sisters, Margaret Walsh, Eau Claire and Agnes Ward, Orange Park, FL; and sister in law, Letty Duffy, Superior. He is also survived by daughter in laws, Peggy Duffy and Nita Duffy, both of Eau Claire. He is further survived by grandchildren, Andrew Johnson, Michael Johnson, Brandon Kirschner, Dustin Duffy, Nicole Duffy, John Koplin, Ryan Osterude, Adam Duffy, David Duffy, Noah Duffy, Danielle Duffy, Ciera Duff, Kabir Sarin, 16 great grandchildren and many nephews and nieces who dearly loved their Uncle Duff. He was preceded in death by his parents; his sons, Dan and Joe; his brother, William; and brother in laws, Thomas Walsh and John Ward. The family would like to thank the medical staff for the excellent care given at Black River Memorial Hospital and Marshfield Medical Center, especially the nursing staff who were so very kind. Smith formed an Inseparable trio who fished and hunted and sailed much of time. Later Mr. Smith went Into the implement business and retired ten years ago. Most of the Winnebago county farmers became acquainted with him. The deceased leaves seven children. 110	FRIEDMAN: My mother, Joanne Schwartz Friedman, born Feb. 27, 1939, died April 26, 2025, after fighting lung cancer with the strength of a superhero. She led her life on her own terms and certainly was an unforgettable character. Mom graduated from the University of Pittsburgh in 1961 with a B.A. in art history, which no doubt informed her sense of beauty, whether it was an interesting work of art or a newly blossomed tree. Friends, many of whom she had known for most of her life, were always calling to chat or plan evenings out. Her love of standard poodles was epic; taking her dogs for long walks gave her tremendous pleasure, particularly when a stranger would shout out ?what a gorgeous poodle!? Mom felt and loved deeply. Likewise, she was beloved by those who knew her. Mom and dad traveled extensively, cruising to destinations that filled them with wonder and endless joy. She always had tears in her eyes as ?her? ship left port, and Louis Armstrong would sing ?What a Wonderful World,? the song that she chose for the first dance at my wedding.?Gagoo? will be sorely missed by family and friends. She is survived by her sister Harriet Schwartz, her daughter Lynn Warren (Dan), her grandchildren Andrew and Katy Warren, her many cousins, nieces, nephews and her standard poodle Bingo. 114	Gregory Paul ADAMS Greg was born in Seattle, Washington on April 3, 1968. After a long and courageous battle with cancer, Greg passed away peacefully at his home on July 31, 2005. His life was blessed with family, friends and faith. Greg grew up in Seattle and met his future wife, Lynnette, in 5th grade at St. Mark's Catholic School. The two continued on to Blanchet High School and graduated together in 1986. The lifetime sweethearts were married August 15, 1987. Sol was born in Phila. to Morris and Rebecca Hirsch. He was predeceased by his beautiful loving wife Florence (nee Bucksbaum), and brothers Sidney, Nathan and Frank. He was a wonderful son, brother, devoted and loving husband, beloved father, grandfather, great grandfather and a lifelong friend to many. He plowed through books quicker than he could be supplied. His appetite for learning was insatiable. 123	James Jay Duquette 1960 - 2011 SPRINGFIELD - James Jay Duquette, 51, of Springfield, died on Tuesday December 20, 2011 surrounded by the love of his family after a brief, but fierce, battle with brain cancer. Born on September 13, 1960 to Bill Duquette and Jane (Sullivan) Duquette of Springfield, Jay graduated from Cathedral High School in 1978, a national merit scholar with a full academic scholarship to the University of Vermont. After only one year at UVM, Jay returned to Springfield intent on forging a less conventional educational path that included degrees in automotive mechanics, computer science, and finance. Just this past May, Jay graduated from Western New England College School of Law, where he earned a Juris Doctor degree. When he died, Jay was a Graduate Fellow at the Isenberg School of Management at UMass, Amherst, where he was working on yet another degree. While at UMass, Jay enjoyed touting his membership in the United Auto Workers Union, which represents UMass graduate assistants. In his 20's Jay worked as an auto mechanic and tow truck driver and rebuilt and sold old cars. He worked as an information technology specialist at the Phoenix Insurance Company for several years and, in his late 30's, became a freelance consultant living and working in Springfield, New York, Baltimore, and Washington, DC. He worked as a consultant with the U.S. Treasury Department and the U.S. Census Bureau in the late 1990s. When friends asked what he was doing at the Census Bureau, he liked to simply say "counting." Jay taught courses for many years at Holyoke Community College and for a couple of years taught at Putnam Vocational High School in Springfield - a job he found particularly rewarding. More than anything else, Jay enjoyed thinking, reading and socializing with family and friends. He was the family historian and philosopher, always willing and able to provide counsel and companionship to family and friends. Over the last several years, he became a very special friend and playmate to his nieces and nephews, Austin, Deirdre, James, Jerold, Bridget, Francis, and Sasha who will all miss their Uncle Jay deeply. In addition to his parents and his nieces and nephews, Jay will be deeply missed by his sister, Lauren; his brothers, Jonathan and Jerold; his sisters in law, Stacy and Kara; and his many extended family members and friends. 126	John Maurice Duquette, 87, of Ludington, formally of Holland, passed away on Sunday, Oct. 23, 2022. John was born in Manistique on Sept. 25, 1935, the son of Henry and Pearl (Salter) Duquette. After attending Manistique High School, John joined the U.S. Air Force in 1953, during the Korean War. He was stationed at Travis Air Force Base in Fairfield, California, until he was honorably discharged in 1957. On June 2, 1990, John married Joanne (Masten) Duquette. They shared 42 wonderful years together, 32 of them married. John was employed at Donnelly Corporation in Holland where he held multiple positions. Later in his career, he was appointed the manufacturing manager for four of the facilities in Holland. After 35 years, he retired in June 1993. John was involved in the American Legion, Amvets and SnoDusters Snowmobile Club, and was a Boy Scout Leader. John lived life to the fullest and was an avid hunter, fisherman and snowmobiler most of his life. John was infamous enough that his family needed three names to describe him: John, Jack or Mud were interchangeably used so often that newcomers to the family thought he was three different people. He spent many years back in the Upper Peninsula, both in Manistique and by the Porcupine Mountains at "hunt camp" and then loved his property out on the Lincoln River east of Ludington where he could hunt and entertain family and friends. John and his wife Joanne were able to share almost 20 years of retirement together and took advantage of that time to travel extensively. He loved to RV and they visited most of the national parks, cruised often and spent the last 16 winters in the same Riverside RV Resort where they also made incredible friendships that he treasured. But most of all, he loved family with all his heart. He was born the last of 13 children (baby John) into a loving, fun-loving, close and loud family that still gathers often and loves deeply with multiple generations staying connected and close. He was a man with a big heart and would do anything for those he loved. He was famous for his sayings, including "Once a Yooper, always a Yooper!" 128	Joyce Elaine (Longwell) Gleadle, a cherished resident of Grants, New Mexico, passed away peacefully in her home on February 11, 2025, surrounded by her loving family. Born on August 31, 1942, in Fairfield, Iowa, Joyce embarked on a journey that eventually led her to the vibrant community of Grants, having earlier lived in Farmington and Gallup, New Mexico. She married her beloved husband, Barry Gleadle, on January 21, 1961, and together they built a life filled with love and devotion for over 52 years, raising three wonderful children. A dedicated member of the First Baptist Church, Joyce?s faith was a cornerstone in her life. She found joy in pursuing her hobbies, which included quilting, crocheting, and tending to her garden. One of her simple pleasures was watching the hummingbirds that visited her backyard, a sight that brought her much happiness. Joyce is survived by her children, Robin Gamache (Stephen), Brian Gleadle, and Tammy Gleadle; her sister, Patricia Wharton; her brother, Melvin Longwell; and her beloved grandchildren, Tyra Jaso (Brad Mathis), Chad Gamache, Shane Richards (MacKenzie Vaughn), and Shelli Richards. Susa, with whom she shared 56 wonderful years of marriage. The two of them enjoyed spending time with their children, Maegan M. (Douglas W. Bonnett) and Bradley L. Susa (Sarah K. Susa); and their grandchildren, Joslyn, Jaclyn, and John Filo, and Otto Susa. Kathy loved the outdoors, and you would find her on her bike on one of the many trails nearby, on the boat in the summer, and on the ski slopes in the winter, all usually with her family and friends. Her true passion was gardening and spending countless hours in her yard tending to her flowers. Kathy was a teacher at Highlands School District for 34 years. First she was a home economics teacher focused on sewing and sharing her sense of style with her students. Midway through her career, she went back for an additional master's degree so she could transition her focus to being a guidance counselor. While teaching, Kathy was a pioneer of empowering women by creating a symposium known as Perspectives on Women, which brought speakers into the community to encourage personal growth and strength in women. Kathy and her husband enjoyed traveling all over the world together and vacationing with their kids and grandkids. To all who knew her, her infectious laugh and boundless love for life left a mark on our hearts that will never fade. 132	KLEIN: Burton Klein, 94, of Fox Chapel, formerly of White Oak, died Monday, Jan. 11, 2021. He was born Aug. 31, 1926, in McKeesport and was the son of Isadore and Esther (Angerman) Klein. He was preceded in death by his older brother, Alvin Klein. Burt was a graduate of the University of Pittsburgh with a Bachelor of Science Degree. He was the co-owner of the former Vienna Bakery in McKeesport, and was later employed in the marketing department of Equitable Resources in Pittsburgh. Burt was a former member of Tree of Life Sfard and was a WWII Army veteran. After celebrating 69 years of marriage, Burt is survived by his wife, Miriam Klein, as well as his three sons, Jeffrey (Harriet) Klein of New York City, Michael (Janene) Klein of Wexford, and David (Sharon) Klein of Kalamazoo, Michigan, and his grandchildren Elizabeth, Jacob, Julian, Anna and Andrew Klein. As all of his friends knew, Burt had a passion for baking. You were truly fortunate if you were one of the few to receive one of Burt?s challahs for the High Holidays. Darlene was born on April 24, 1951 in Laurium to Maxwell and Dorothy (Ruonavaara) Hiltunen. She grew up in Florida Location, graduating from Calumet High School with the Class of 1969. Darlene held various jobs throughout her lifetime, most recently retiring from Environmental Services at Aspirus Keweenaw Hospital in August 2024 due to health complications. Darlene had a passion for music, gardening and was a loving and devoted mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin, and friend. She was a beacon of light to all who knew and loved her, and will be fondly remembered for her gentle kindness, infectious laugh and SISU determination. MRS GAMACHE, 94, PIONEER IN STATE, IS DEAD; Her First Husband Aided in Driving Mormons Off Beaver Island. Mrs. Mary Gamache, aged 94, of Ogontz, died at a local hospital at 8:50 Friday morning from the effects of a broken leg, suffered at her farm home on June 17, when she fell while carrying water from the well to the house. She was brought there immediately after the accident and the fracture was set but her advanced age and her weakened condition made her recovery doubtful from the time of her arrival at the hospital. Up to the time of the accident, Mrs. Gamache was unusually active for one of her years. Mrs. Gamache was born in Ireland in 1834 and came to Michigan with her parents when she was about six years of age. The family settled at Mackinaw Island and she lived during the succeeding decades at almost every fishing port along Lake Michigan. Few mariners knew the lake as well as she and she was especially familiar with Bay de Noc and its fishing grounds. She resided in Delta county for more than 40 years and in the state of Michigan continuously for 88 years. Her first husband, the late Jeremiah Williams whom she married in Detroit in 1853, was one of the Beaver Island fishermen who had a hand in driving the Mormon colony, under King Strang, out of the Lake Michigan area, 69 years ago. She was ill on the day of the Mormon flight, her second child being but two days old, and she sat up in bed and watched the deportation. Her memory of these stirring days was unusually clear and vivid and she often related many interesting tales of the Pioneer times in the Upper Pennisula. Mr. Williams died in 1895. Eight years later his widow married Joseph Gamache. Thirteen years ago fire destroyed their farm home and Mr. Gamache sustained burns while rescuing his wife from the blazing building, which caused him to become totally blind. During Mrs. Gamache's last illness, the aged, sightless husband was constantly at her bedside. In addition to her husband, six grandchildren survive. They are Robert Williams of Manistique; Roger Williams and Mrs. Edwin Freeze of Escanaba; Mrs Anna Stude of Kaukauna, WI; and Charles E. Williams of Milwaukee and Mrs. Fred Clothier of Ogontz. All of Mrs. Gamache's children preceded her in death and she reared four of their orphaned families. The body was removed to the Allo Funeral Home where it will remain until 9 o'clock Monday morning when the funeral will be held from St. Joseph's Catholic Church. The Rev. Fr. Born to Clifton Fitts Ellis and Alice Mae (Fuller) Ellis in Londonderry, NH. Mary worked at Benson Wild Animal Farm, a zoo and amusement park, in Hudson, NH while in high school and loved the elephants. She graduated from Alvirne High School in Hudson, NH in 1955. Mary married George in 1960 and moved to Ashfield, MA and later moving to Shelburne Falls 1967. Mary worked at Buckland-Shelburne Elementary School for 7 years before joining United Bank in 1981. She became assistant branch manager and in 1993 moved to Greenfield, MA. Mary retired from the bank, after 19 years, in 2000 as the bank transitioned to Bank of Western Mass. She is survived by daughter Juliana Allard and husband Robert of Farmville, NC; son James Gamache and Donna Bernier of Shelburne Falls; and daughter Suzanne Vight and husband James of Charlemont; and three grandchildren Stephen Allard, Dr. Melissa Allard, and Elizabeth Vight. She is predeceased by her husband George; brother Everett Ellis; sister Linda (Richardson) Stanwood; son Matthew; and granddaughter Mandi. A private graveside service will take place at a later date.
