LEWISTON - A funeral Mass honoring the life of Romeo B. Gamache was celebrated on Tuesday at St. Joseph's Church, after prayers at the Pinette & Lynch Funeral Home. The Rev. Nathan March con-celebrated the Mass with the Rev. Albert Roux. Delegations present at the Mass and during visitation were the firefighters from the town of Lisbon. At the beginning of Mass, Romeo's children, Leland Gamache, Sandra Albert, Deborah Gamache-Merrill and Katherine Starbird draped their father's casket with the burial pall that commemorates their father's baptism into new life. During Mass the readings were done by Romeo's granddaughter-in-law, Michelle Gamache and his granddaughter, Jessica Gamache. The intercessions were read by his grandson, Christopher Gamache. The offertory was brought to the altar by Romeo's brother, Rueben Gamache and his sister, Clara Gartley. Words of remembrance were expressed by Romeo's grandson, Rudy Albert II. Committal services with military honors will be held at a later date in the spring at St. Ann's Cemetery. Pallbearers were Chris Gamache, Brian Ryerson, Matthew Starbird, Rudy Albert II, Jessica Gamache, Becky Albert, Michael Bolduc and Daniel Gamache. A reception of fellowship was held at the Ramada Inn after the funeral Mass.

LEWISTON - Romeo B. Gamache, 82, of Lewiston, died very peacefully at his residence on Friday, March 6, surrounded by all his family, following a long courageous battle with cancer. He was born in Lisbon on July 2, 1926, the son of Alfred and Marie (Belanger)Gamache and had been a resident of this community for most of his life. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II from 1944 to 1946. He was employed in several local mills and retired from Miller Industries in 1988. He then went to work at Liberty Mutual Insurance as a security guard. He was a volunteer at the Good Shepherd Food-Bank and also a volunteer firefighter for Lisbon Center until its closing, then ET Smith Hose Co. in Lisbon for a total of 28 years. He was a parishioner of St. Joseph's Church, a member of the American Legion and Past President of the Grange. Romeo was an avid outdoorsman enjoying moose and deer hunting, fishing, ice fishing, camping, gardening, NASCAR and the New England Patriots. He loved all animals, especially his cat, Chichi. Most of all he loved spending time with his family. He is survived by his wife, the former Cecile Michaud, of Lewiston, whom he married on Sept. 11, 1948; one son, Leland Gamache and his wife, Linda, of Lisbon; three daughters, Sandra Albert and her husband, Rudolph, of Lewiston, Deborah Gamache-Merrill and her husband, Thomas, of Lewiston, and Katherine Starbird and her husband, Ronald, of Lisbon; one brother, Rueben Gamache and his wife, Irene, of Sabattus; two twin sisters, Aldea Grondin and Clara Gartley, both of Auburn; a sister-in-law, CatherineGamache, of Lisbon Falls; nine grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; four step-great-grandchildren; seven godchildren; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two brothers, Clifford and Clarence Gamache.
