William 'Bill' Fortier, 1935-2009
William "Bill" Fortier, of Nashua went home to be with his Lord on Tuesday, March 10, 2009.
Bill was born in Brockton, MA in 1935 to Henry and Alice Fortier and grew up there. He graduated from Brockton High School and then went on to Mass. College of Pharmacy. He served as a pharmacist in the Army at Walter Reed Hospital in Washington, D.C.
He returned home to Brockton and married Jean E. Cicone in 1960. They lived in Brockton and then moved to West Bridgewater. Bill worked at Dunnington's Pharmacy and then at Lederman's. They moved to Nashua in 1971. In the Nashua area Bill worked for Rice's, Rainbow (as owner), Whitney and Brook's Pharmacies. He retired from Brook's in 2007.
Bill and Jean had four children: Kevin Fortier and Joanne Fortier Gamache of Bedford, Christopher Fortier of San Francisco, CA, and Gregory Fortier of Pembrook. Bill was very active in St. Joseph the Worker Parish in Nashua, serving as both a Eucharistic Minister and a Lector. In retirement, he was also involved in the RISE Program at Revere College.
He is survived by his loving wife and children as well as daughters-in-law Sheri-Lynn Fournier and Lisa Fortier, and son-in-law Marc Gamache. He is also survived by four grandsons, William and Michael Fortier and Nicolas and Samuel Gamache, and many nieces and nephews.
Bill was predeceased by his brother, Henry Fortier of Bridgewater, MA.
A celebration of Bill's life will be held Thursday from 4-8 p.m. at the ZIS-SWEENEY FUNERAL HOME, 26 KINSLEY ST., NASHUA, NH 03060. The celebration will continue on Friday at 10:30 a.m. with a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Joseph the Worker Parish, 777 W. Hollis St, Nashua.
