Myrtle V. Nelson, 91, Knife River, Minnesota, died Friday, February 22, 2002 at Lake View Memorial Hospital, Two Harbors.
She was born March 6, 1910 to Harry and A. (Agda) Marie (Rosen) Sharpley in Duluth and adopted by her step-father Halvor Halvorson when she was five years old. She grew up in Clover Valley, married Vernard Nelson in April 1926, and had made her home in Knife River since that time. She was employed as a cook at various restaurants and later at the Lake View Memorial Hospital in Two Harbors, until retiring in 1972. Myrtle was a member of the Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Two Harbors and the Women of the Moose.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband - Vernard in 1971; sons - Leonard, Paul and Dwight; brother - Vernon Halvorson, and sister - Ruth Aho.
She is survived by sons - Gilbert (Janis) and Duane (Nancy) both of Duluth, Donn (Kelly) of Knife River, and Robert of Sequim, Washington; daughters - Carolyn (Bruce) Johnson of Ely, and Lorraine ''Maggie'' Gunderson of Two Harbors; brother - Harold Halvorson of Everett, Washington; sister - Irene Anderson of Palm Desert, California; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Burial at Sunrise Memorial Park, Hermantown.
