Ohio Ave Sedalia, MO UPCOMING SERVICE Visitation Mar, 6 2022 4:30p.m. - 6:00p.m. Heckart Funeral Home Send Flowers Margaret Schlomer, 93, was gathered by the angels at Golden Oaks Assisted Living in Marshall, MO on March 1, 2022. Margaret was born on March 10, 1928, to Frank D. Gamache, Sr. and Anna Chovan Gamache in Bessemer, Michigan, where she spent her childhood. Shortly after graduating from high school in 1945, she moved to Chicago, IL with her twin sister, Marion, where they both quickly found work after World War II. It was there that she met the man who would become her husband, William Dean "Bill" Schlomer, who had joined the Navy. They were married on September 4, 1948, in Bessemer. Shortly after their wedding, the couple settled in Pettis County near Longwood where Bill farmed. She always remembered that the good folks in Longwood thought she talked funny due to her "Northern" accent. Margaret's primary career was as a wife and mother. As a young mother, she worked in restaurants in the Marshall Junction area, and when her children were older, she began working various jobs, including retail in Sedalia and as a cook at Northwest High School. Her home-cooked meals, especially her fried chicken, were legendary. Her favorite pastimes were solving crossword puzzles and reading. After she retired, she loved to play cards with her friends in Hughesville. Education was very important to Margaret and she always encouraged her children to excel in school, and was active in the Northwest PTA (later PTO), having served as president. Although Margaret was raised in the Lutheran faith, she soon adopted the Presbyterian Church after she married Bill, and was a devout member of Longwood Presbyterian Church where she taught Sunday School, helped with Vacation Bible School, and was active in Presbyterian Women. She is survived by son David Schlomer and daughter Rebecca Barnes (Jeff); sister, Jean Baker of Champaign, IL, brother Robert Gamache (Judy) of Altoona, WI; daughter-in-law Kim Schlomer; seven grandchildren, Sam Barnes (Ashley), Dan Barnes (Angie), Tim Barnes (Lindsay), Allison Barnes, Maria Bradford (Domanick), Lorelei Cunningham (Trevor) and Jake Heishman (Ashley), as well as seven great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bill; her parents; her twin sister, Marion Pooler; her older sister, Ruth Migalski; younger brother, Frank D. Gamache, Jr.; her son Robert Schlomer, and grandson Neal Schlomer. Visitation will be from 4:30 to 6:00 at Heckart Funeral Home, Sedalia on Sunday March 6. Funeral on Monday, March 7 at 11:00 at the Longwood Presbyterian Church, Longwood, MO. The family requests donations to the church, Open Door Food Pantry, or to the charity of your choice in care of Heckart Funeral Home. The family would like to acknowledge the excellent care provided by the staff at Golden Oaks Assisted Living as well as the staff of Crossroads Hospice.
