RYAN, Jacqueline We celebrate the life of Jacqueline Ryan (nee Gamache) who passed away on December 4, 2010 at the age of 84. Jackie as she was known to all was born November 4, 1926 in St. Paul, Alberta. The eldest of four girls born to Roxane and Daniel Gamache, she was raised and educated in the community of St. Paul. In her early twenties she moved to the city of Edmonton working as a music teacher and second violinist in the Edmonton Symphony. Jackie married Patrick Ryan in Edmonton in 1950 and set about raising a family with Pat. Their first residence was a small suite of rooms above the Co-op store in Tomahawk Alberta where Pat was the manager. As their children arrived, Tim (Anne Gray), Michael (Shauna) Ryan and Roxanne (Mark Wayland), they moved to the city of Edmonton where Pat worked with Cooperatives in Edmonton. Jackie came from a family of musicians and music educators. Trained by her mother, and later as a Royal Conservatory graduate, Jackie's passion was music. As a teacher Jackie trained both her daughter Roxanne and granddaughter Layla as both musicians and music teachers. Jackie taught piano and music theory for close to sixty-two years. She was an active member of the Alberta Registered Music Teachers Association. Jackie was predeceased by her husband Pat, and is survived by her children, her grandchildren, Layla (Richard Pretzlaff), Zoe (Derek Sloan), Marisa Ryan and Brodie Wayland, and six great-grandchildren. In her last years Jackie received support from the staff at West Country Hearth in Villeneuve and the Royal Alexandra Hospital. We wish to thank them for their efforts on her behalf. A Celebration of Jackie's Life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 9, 2010, at Foster and McGarvey Funeral Home, 10011-114 Street, Edmonton.
