Steven J. Sandberg, 65, of Cadillac, Michigan, formerly of Manistee, died unexpectedly Wednesday, March 27, 2019, at Munson Medical Center in Traverse City.
He was born Aug. 5, 1953, in Manistee, Michigan, son of the late Leo and Marjorie L. (Adamski) Sandberg.
He was a graduate of Manistee Catholic Central with the Class of 1971. He married Sharon R. Markham on Oct. 9, 1976, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Manistee. He attended Ferris State University where he earned his Bachelor in Marketing. Steve spent most of his working career employed with Kroger Retailing Company. He then was employed with Paulstra of Cadillac until his retirement due to health issues.
He loved being outdoors, enjoying hunting and fishing. He also liked collecting antiques and frequenting yard sales. He also enjoyed sports and was an avid Detroit Tiger's fan. Despite being challenged by some health issues over the years, Steve had a strong spirit and above all, he loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Sharon; his sons, Aaron (Kendra), of Greenville, Michigan, Brian (Whitney), of Sault Ste. Marie, and Eric Sandberg (fiancé Desire Hotsinpiller), of Leroy, Michigan; three grandchildren, Keyton, Brayden and Keyana Sandberg; three sisters, Rose Hilliard, of Brethren, Michigan, Susan (Greg) Gamache, of Manistee, Michigan, and Sandra (Donald) Harvey; and one brother, Larry (Linda) Sandberg, all of Eastlake, Michigan. Numerous nieces and nephews also survive him.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his mother and father-in-law, Thomas and Esther Markham.
A memorial service will be held at noon on Sunday, April 7, 2019, at Herbert Funeral Home in Manistee with the Rev. James Carmichael officiating. A time of continued fellowship will follow at the Eastlake Hall. The family will be at the funeral home on Sunday from 11 a.m. until the time of service to receive friends.
A memorial has been established to assist the family with final expenses. Envelopes are available at the funeral home.
