Died:
- Dominic "Don" Fornengo, Willow Ridge, Amery, died July 15, 2003. He was 83 years old.
Don was born July 12, 1920, in Macon, Mo., the son of John and Maria (Vallero) Fornengo. He moved to Cloverton, Minn., where he owned and operated a farm from 1937 to 1944. Nov. 22, 1944, he entered the United States Army. He served in the Asiatic Pacific Theater and was section chief supervising 15 other mechanics. He was honorably discharged from the Army on Aug. 9, 1946. June 4, 1949, he was united in marriage to Ardyce Gamache. After marriage, Don owned and operated a filling station in Milltown until 1952, it was then that he and Ardyce decided to move to New York where they lived until returning to Polk County in 1960. Don took a job as a mechanic working for the Polk County Highway Department until his retirement in 1982 and they were blessed with two children. For the past 19 years Don and Ardyce spent their winters in Arizona and their summers in Wisconsin. Don was a member of the Unity VFW for many years.
Don was preceded in death by his parents; sister Mary; brother Tony.
He is survived by his wife, Ardyce; son Tom Fornengo; daughter Cindy Fornengo; brothers Peter, Joe and Martin; sisters Lucille, Tracy and Maggie; two grandchildren; many other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held July 18 at Elim Lutheran Church in Range with the Rev. Jean-Pierre Appel officiating. Organist was Karen Littlefield. Casketbearers were Tim Fornengo, Tony Fornengo, Keith Peterson, Jerry Peterson, Craig Duren and Gary Donatelle. Honorary casketbearers were Clarence Torgerson, Bob Williamson, Ed Kieffer, Roy Bergstedt, Bud Vetter and Glen Goldsmith. Interment at Elim Cemetery in Range. The Unity VFW provided military honors.
The Williamson Funeral Home, Amery, assisted the family with arrangements.
