Ferris, Paul
Paul Ferris, 71, of 1601 38th Ave., Menominee, Michigan, passed away Saturday, Feb. 21, at Bay Area Medical Center. He was the son of Joseph and Ella (Lorang) Ferris and was born in Oconto on June 20, 1932. Paul grew up in Oconto and Peshtigo and graduated from Marinette High School in 1950. Afterwards, he joined the Navy and was a submarine veteran of the Korean War. In 1956 he was accepted into the Central Intelligence Agency, for which he served for 13 years as a communications officer in various embassies in the Middle East, Cyprus, Burma, Somalia, and Malaysia. In 1959 he married Mary Rose (Mitzi) Horzen in Sheboygan, Wisconsin, and in 1970 they returned from the Foreign Service to raise their six children on Ranch Lake outside of Coleman-Pound, Wisconsin. Over the next 29 years he worked as a sales manager for various companies including the Menominee Rubber Company and Marmen Computing. During that time he was active in Scouting, the Coleman School Board and wrote a number of articles for sales and other trade magazines. In 1989 he became self-employed as the publisher of Scouter?s Digest newsletter and continued to work and teach as a writer and sales expert. In 1993 he married Eleanore Gustafson in Menominee, Michigan. And in 1996 he was diagnosed with emphysema, which led to his untimely death eight years later.
He was the proud father of six surviving children, Peter (Betty Lou), Mark (Anita), Steven, Luke, Anne and Jean. He is also survived by his devoted wife Eleanore, his former wife, Mitzi, and seven grandchildren, Chris, Rebekah, Rachel, David, Joseph, Avery and Ethan.
Family and friends may visit at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Park Avenue at Madison Street, Oconto, from 5 until 7 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 22, 2004. Vigil Service 7 p.m. Sunday at the Church with Deacon Walt Kaszynski officiating. Visitation will continue from 9 until 9:45 a.m. Monday, Feb. 23, 2004. Funeral Liturgy 10 a.m. Monday at the Church with The Rev. Fr. David Ruby presiding. Interment at Mellen Township Cemetery, Wallace, Michigan.
Jones-Modrow-Young American Legion Post #74 will conduct Military Rites following the Liturgy.
The family suggests memorials to Boy Scouts of America.
