Margaret F. (Sally) Prokop, 81, a former resident of Hixton, WI went home to be with her lord on January 20, 2014 at her home in Stevens Point, WI after a courageous battle with Cancer.
A mass in her name will be held on February 9th, 2014 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Stevens Point, WI. Internment will be held at 2:00 pm on March 28th, 2014 at the Northern Wisconsin Veteran's Memorial, 2 miles South of Spooner on Hwy 53. Full Military Honors will be conducted at the cemetery by the United States Air Force.
Sally was born May 21, 1932 in L'Anse, MI to Eugene and Alice Racette. She graduated from L'Anse High School in 1950 and then proceeded on to Secretarial School in Appleton, WI where she graduated in 1951. She joined the United States Air Force in 1952 and was stationed at Chanute Air Force Base, where she met her husband Joseph E. Prokop. He was also stationed at Chanute at that time. They were united in marriage on Sept. 1, 1956 at Chanute AFB in Illinois.
Sally proudly served her country during her time in the United States Air Force where she was a SSGT. After getting out of the service, she excelled at her new job of being an Air Force wife and mother. The family was stationed at many bases throughout Joe's military career, where she excelled as an Avon Representative and various business ventures.
Upon her husband's retirement from the USAF in 1972, Joseph and Sally moved their family to Hixton, WI, where they resided until 1989. Joseph and Sally then sold their home and traveled throughout the country, selling product at various military bases until the time of his death. Sally then moved back to Black River Falls for 5 years and then moved to Stevens Point, WI to be closer to family.
Sally greatly enjoyed spending time with her husband, family and many friends from all over the United States. She had a very strong faith in our Lord and would tell everyone what a beautiful life she had. She loved to tell stories about her life and enjoyed working and meeting new friends at various military bases, going eat with her 'Red Hat' friends and traveling.
She is survived by two sons, Joseph (Kass) Prokop of Rochester, NY, Edward (Terri) Prokop of St. Point, WI, two daughters, Valerie (Chris) Stogner of Jacksonville, FL, Alice (Donald) Lessig of Mullica Hill, NJ; 5 grandchildren, Lana, Joe, Kate, Meg Prokop and Dana (James) Milnes , 2 great-grandchildren Christina and Virginia Milnes, 2 brothers, Tom (Anna) Racette, Appleton, WI; Fritz (Judy) Racette, Escanaba, WI; 2 sisters, Sandy (Floyd) Roberts, Mankato, MN; Phillis Dompier, Gaylord, MI;1 sister-in-law Joanne Racette.
Sally was preceded in death by her husband Joseph, her sister Mary Faith Manning, her brother Patrick Racette, brother-in-laws Pierre Dompier and Herb Manning and her parents.
