- Kirsten (Johnson) Gamache, of Barrington, died at home on Sunday, Dec. 16, 2012, after a two-year battle with cancer. She was 52. She was the wife of Richard E. Gamache. A lifelong resident of Barrington, she was the daughter of the late Bud and Elaine Johnson and the step-daughter of Gail Sweeney, wife of William Sweeney, of Bristol. A graduate of Barrington High School and Vassar College, she was employed during the 1980s by Blue Cross Blue Shield of Rhode Island as a marketing writer. She left her job to devote herself to raising her children. In 2005 she became a substitute teacher in the Barrington Public Schools, which she continued to do until her illness. Gamache enjoyed summer days at Brigg?s beach; visits to Great East Lake in Maine; cooking; baking; spending time with her many close friends and two great dogs, Lucy and Tadd. But most of all she enjoyed her life as a wife and mother.
Besides her husband of 24 years, she is survived by three sons, Matthew Gamache, a senior at Bowdoin College in Maine; Benjamin Gamache, a sophomore at Berklee College of Music in Boston, and Timothy Gamache, a sophomore at Barrington High School. She is also survived by her father-in-law, Aurele Gamache of Fall River, Mass., and the late Mary (Fitzgerald) Gamache.
She leaves five sisters, Karol Hjerpe and her husband, Eric, of Sudbury, Mass., Karlene Johnson of Riverside, RI; Kerri Skwirz and her husband, William, of West Kingstown, RI., Christine Pelton and her husband, Kevin, of Kingston, RI, and Colleen Scott Smith and her husband, Patrick of Cranston, RI.
She also leaves three brothers-in-law, Ronald Gamache and his wife Cynthia of Somerset, Mass., John Gamache of Bristol, RI, and Scott Barrow and his wife, Rosemary of Dartmouth, Mass.; two sisters-in-law, Marian Desrochers of New Hampshire and the late Ann Barrow. She also leaves 16 nieces and nephews, and many aunts, uncles and cousins.
Her funeral will be held at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church, 15 Hayes St., in Providence on Friday at 10 am. Burial will follow at 12 noon at Swan Point Cemetery on Blackstone Boulevard in Providence.
Visiting hours are Thursday from 4 to 8 pm at the Smith-Mason Funeral Home, 398 Willet Ave., Riverside RI.
