- Roland Gamache was one of the pioneers of Val d'Or when he arrived in 1936. Roland Gamache, grocer, butcher, was born in Stoke Center, Richmond County, on 4 Decembre 1909, son of Jacques Gamache and Anna Pinard. He attended school in Stoke until the age of 18 where he worked with his father on the old family property. In 1932 he established himself at Ville Marie, Témiscamingue, on his own account, he devoted himself to growing strawberries and raspberries. After four years, he went to Val d'Or to work for Mr. Jules Dubreuil, grocer, butcher, later becoming his partner until M.Dubreuil's death in March 1942. He became the sole owner of the current store that provides its clientele an assortment that is second to none to stores of this kind, even in our major cities. Amember of the Knights of Columbus and a member of two Chambers of Commerce, he enjoys hunting and fishing in his spare time. He married Rhéa Beaudry at Ville Marie on 24 Jul 1940 and has three daughters, Lise, Claudette and Jeannette.
