MR. PHILBERT L. GAMACHEOf Stone Mountain went home to be with the Lord, August 24, 2003. He was 82. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 45 years, Mildred Estelle Gamache. Mr. Gamache was originally born in Lisbon, Maine, served his country with distinction during World War II from 1940 - 1945 in the U. S. Army 43rd Infantry Division. Phil received campaign stars for service in New Zealand, Guadalcanal, the Solomons and the Philippines. He also received the Purple Heart, the Bronze Star for bravery in ground combat, the U. S. Army good Conduct medal and the World War II Victory Medal for his outstanding service during the Pacific theaters of operation. He was a member of VFW Post No. 4706 in Decatur, GA. Mr. Gamache worked for the Simmons Co. in Atlanta where he retired in 1983 after 33 years of loyal and dedicated service. A long time member of the Pine Lake Baptist Church, Phil was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, friend and neighbor. He exemplified his Christian faith through his deep generosity, selflessness and strong devotion to his family and community. He was kind, caring and everybody's friend and a true inspiration to all who knew him. He is survived by his loving wife of 20 years, Edna Ashley Gamache; his devoted sister, Rita Gamache Abramson and her husband Robert of W. Rex, MA; daughter, Phillis Ryan of Hot Springs, AR; stepsons, Leon Ashley of South Bay, FL, Larry Ashley of Lawrenceville; and grandson, Phillip Gamache and his family of San Diego, CA. A private memorial service was held with interment at Resthaven Gardens of Memory. A. S. Turner & Sons
