Gwen was raised in a family of eight children. As a farmer?s daughter, she developed a strong work ethic that she carried throughout her life and instilled in her children. Gwen spent her childhood playing with her three older brothers and helping her mother care for her four younger sisters.
She married her high school sweetheart and love of her life, Dale Gamache, on September 29th, 1973. Together they raised four daughters in Moxee, Washington. Dale and Gwen raised their children on a farm in a structured, Catholic household where hard work, independence and perseverance were the norm. Gwen?s Italian culture and rural upbringing permeated her parenting style.
Gwen enjoyed hiking the hills of Arizona, golfing with Dale and their golf buddies, tending her beautiful garden, shopping for antiques and reading voraciously. She loved visual and performing arts and spending time with her friends and family, especially her grandchildren. Her work included, first and foremost, raising her children, as well as retail, interior design and hops procurement for a brewing company. Gwen was a deeply compassionate woman committed to supporting multiple causes, especially those impacting loved ones, of whom she was fiercely protective.
She is survived by her husband, Dale Gamache; her four daughters, Anne Gamache, Jennifer (Todd) Kroger, Carrie Gamache (Chris Henstock) and Erin (Paul) Frye, and her nine grandchildren: Alex Lantis, Ajay Frye, Ethan Frye, Cameron Lantis, Lucetta Kroger, Sophia Henstock, Hannah Henstock, Doria Kroger and Parker Henstock. She is also survived by her mother, Blanche Deccio, and her siblings: Dennis (Denny) Deccio, Greg Deccio, Ted Deccio, Vic Weber, Gina Keller, Jacki Cacchiotti and Christina McVicker. She was preceded in death by her father, Gene.
A Catholic Mass of Christian Burial and Funeral Service will be held at Holy Rosary Catholic Church (201 N. Iler St., Moxee, WA 98936) on Monday, August 6, 2018 at 10:00 AM. This will be followed by a reception at the Holy Rosary Reception Hall. A private inurnment will be held at Holy Rosary Cemetery at a later time.
Gwen?s belief in God?s healing powers led her to put aside her own pain and suffering each week to pray for a cure for their great-niece, Vivian Rose Weaver. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in memory of Gwen to the Vivian Rose Weaver Defeat DIPG Foundation at vivianrosedipg.org.
We would like to extend a special thank you to the extraordinarily compassionate staff at Cottage in the Meadow, who took fantastic care of Gwen and the family throughout her stay. Brookside Funeral Home is caring for the family. To share a memory or condolence with the family, please visit www.brooksidefhc.com.
