HENDRIX, Evangeline Mae Poetter Evangeline "Vange" was born March 19, 1925 in the family farm home, during a raging blizzard, in Blue Earth, Minnesota. She graduated from Blue Earth High School in 1942 and attended St. Cloud Teachers College. Loving secretarial work and office management she was employed at the Fairbault County Extension Office for four years. After passing a civil service exam, she left Minnesota, moving to Laramie, Wyoming where she was secretary and assistant to the Director of the Emergency Farm Labor program, United States Extension Service, U.S. Department of Agriculture. This program involved 11 western states, moving farm workers from our southern border to Canada as they followed the harvest. The program terminated and Vange transferred to the Soil Conservation Service, USDA, moving to Chandler, Arizona in 1948. It was in Chandler where she met the love of her life, her husband of 63 years, William F. Hendrix. They were married May 21, 1948 in Phoenix, Arizona. Shortly after their marriage, they moved to Tucson, Arizona. Vange had transferred to the Tucson office of the USDA Soil Conservation Service and Bill attended the University of Arizona. She retired in 1950 upon the birth of the first of their five children. After the children were in school, Vange was employed at Trinity Presbyterian Church for several years. Later she substituted in elementary school offices in the Amphitheater Public Schools. Vange was active in community affairs. She was an advocate of the Tucson Police Department's Neighborhood Watch Program, helping to organize this program in the two neighborhoods in which they lived. She also served as secretary on the board of directors of the Arcadia Square Homeowner's Association. Vange is preceded in death by her parents, Walter August Poetter and Cora Wilhelmine Schuler Poetter as well as her devoted husband, William F. "Bill" Hendrix. She is survived by her five children, Rebecca Wilson (Mark), William F. Hendrix III (Kathi), Mark L. Hendrix (Shayne), Ann Bertrand (Edwin), and Bradley K. Hendrix (Leah).
