Donald Bernier from South Hadley and Englewood, Florida passed away at his home in South Hadley on Tuesday, May 21st. Don was born in Northampton, MA on March 16th, 1927 to the late Raymond and Laura (Coulombe) Bernier. Don attended Northampton High School and enlisted in the Merchant Marines serving in both the Atlantic and Pacific War Zones during WWII. Upon returning, he joined his father, Raymond, in the family business, Bernier?s Battery and Filling Station, later becoming Bernier?s Auto Sales on King Street in Northampton.
Donald is survived by his daughters Jean Lazarz and husband Philip of Hadley, MA, Karen Mankus and husband Robert of Enfield, CT, and Donna Bernier and lifetime partner, James Gamach of Shelburne Falls, MA; six grandchildren, and five great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, May 29, 2019, at the Ahearn Funeral Home. Calling hours will be from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM with a service following at Noon.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Shriners Children?s Hospital at Shriners International Headquarters, 2900 N. Rocky Point Dr., Tampa, FL 33607
