Donald Peter Faucher, 91, passed away peacefully Friday evening June 17, 2016 at Highgate Senior Living in Yakima where he was a pampered and much loved resident by his care partners.
Don, Pops or affectionately known by his neighbors as ?Fosh,? was born August 31, 1924 to parents Joseph and Rebecca (Cyr) Faucher at home on Faucher Road in Moxee, WA. He was a descendent of the French Migration to the Moxee Valley.
Don spent his early childhood years living in Moxee. The family purchased a farm and moved to Lateral C Road in Wapato in 1926 where he remained living for the next 87 years until he moved to Yakima in the Fall of 2013. He graduated from Wapato High School with the class of 1943. He married Mable C. Smithwick on November 15, 1947. Together they farmed hops, apples and grapes on the family farm and had one daughter, Vicki.
He and Mable were married 52 years until her death on November 9, 2001. He devoted the last 28 years of their marriage to caring for Mable during her illness with MS, spending the last 8 years every afternoon without fail visiting her at Emerald Care in Wapato. During the lean farming years, he and his father would spend the winter months remodeling friends? and neighbors? homes. While farming he was on several hop industry boards and was also a board member of Emerald Care for twelve years, retiring in 2014. He was a lifetime member of the Yakima Elks, a past parish council board member and member of St. Peter Claver Catholic Church while living in Wapato.
He was a devoted grandfather to his three grandsons who couldn?t spend enough time with their beloved Pops when they were growing up. He was a true gentleman with a kind and loving heart and was loved and respected by all who knew him.
He is preceded in death by his parents, brother Leonard Faucher, sisters Margaret Henley Phillips, Monica Brackney, and Rosemary Faris and grandson Jered Gamache.
