- [S5] Obituary.
Charles Euell Fulkerson
When we were kids, our parents told us they wanted to live to a healthy 90, then die in a car accident. Dad did that. Charles Euell Fulkerson was born in Seattle to Elmer Euell Fulkerson and Brownie Ethel Peek on April 7, 1924. He graduated from Queen Anne High School and attended Presbyterian Seminary at Whitworth College. WWII was in progress. After a year at Whitworth, Dad signed up for the Marine Corps.
Dad was a radio man, Private First Class, in the 6th Joint Assault Signal Company (JASCO), 6th Marine Division, serving on Guadalcanal, Guam, Okinawa, and Iwo Jima. He was in the crowd on the USS Missouri when Emperor Hirohito surrendered. He did not become a minister.
He was a fifth year creative writing student at the UW with Angelo Pellegrini when the GI bill ran out. With a bunch of cronies, he went down to Boeing and signed on. He stayed 45 years, materiel manager and business ethics instructor when he retired at 70 in 1994. He made paintings and wine, and he loved cars.
He and his wife, Virginia Muhle Fulkerson, had been married 63 years when she died August 13, 2011. He is survived by four of his five children: Laura (Jim Gamache), Scott, Lyn, and John (Vicky Register). Mark Russell Fulkerson died at age 20 in 1986. Dad's six grandchildren: Shawna Gamache (Todd Lininger), Julia Gamache, Katrina (Kyle Nelson); Vance, Vaughn and Elana Fulkerson, and two great grandchildren: Quinn and Ruby Lininger, will miss him too.
A celebration of his life is planned for 2:00 p.m., Thursday, July 24, 2014, at Eastgate Congregational Church, 15318 SE Newport Way, Bellevue. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in his name to The Alano Club or Overlake Medical Center Foundation.
