Cecelia Amelia Louise (Walkup) (Bennett) Jarvis, 86, passed away peacefully Monday, Jan. 13, 2014, at The Pines in Glens Falls.
Born March 19, 1927, in Fort Edward, she was the daughter of the late Fred and Celia (Gamache) Walkup.
She attended Fort Edward School.
On Sept. 3, 1954, she married Francis Jarvis in North Canaan, Conn. They spent many years together before his passing in 1990.
Ceil was always a very pleasant person with a comfortable sense of humor. Her life was an arduous journey, having raised six children without the necessary resources to do so. She was always busy, tending the family, cooking, cleaning and even sewing ? creating clothing.
In her early years, she worked as a seamstress in various area dress shops. Later, she worked in the dietary department of Glens Falls Hospital. She loved her job and she loved her family. She always
enjoyed activities such as crocheting, crafts, bingo, sewing, playing cards and bowling (Prospectors League, Lake George Bowl, and 1977-78 champions, Glens Falls Hospital League).
Besides her parents and husband, Ceil is predeceased by her infant son, Clyde James Bennett; her dear sister, Julia (James) Williams; her brother, Fred Walkup; her brother, Rod; her sister, Annabelle Bennett; her brother, Elmur Walkup; her brother, Joseph (Ruth) Walkup; her infant grandson, David Jarvis; and also a great-great-granddaughter, Lizzie Osborne
Left to cherish her memories are her children, Linda Smith and her husband, Steve, of Oklahoma, Fred Bennett (Georgia) of Queensbury, Timothy Bennett and his wife, Martha, of Queensbury, Patricia TeBordo and her husband, Dave, of New Hampshire, Francis Jarvis and his wife, Gail, of Queensbury, and David Jarvis (Marsha) of Fort Edward; grandchildren, Theresa, Lisa, Tammy, Jennifer (Mike) and Brian (Bennett), Cheryl and Scott (TeBordo), Debbie and Doug (Smith), Sarah, Adam and Savannah (Barber/Bennett), and Jessica, Melissa and Brianna (Jarvis); and many great-grandchildren; great-great-grandchildren; nieces; nephews; and cousins.
Friends may call from 4 to 6 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 17, 2014, at M.B. Kilmer Funeral Home, 82 Broadway, Fort Edward, NY 12828.
A funeral service will be conducted following the calling hours at 6 p.m. at the funeral home with Regina Haag of Adirondack Friends Meeting officiating.
Burial will be at Union Cemetery in Hudson Falls at a date to be determined in the spring.
