Carol Elaine (Coupal) Shea entered into eternal rest on May 10, 2019. Born in Ludlow, MA on December 24, 1940, she was the daughter of the late Edmond Coupal and Mary ?Marion? (Gamache) Coupal. She graduated from Ludlow High School in 1958 and enrolled into the Licensed Practical Nursing Program at Putnam School of Nursing. After graduation, she entered into employment at Baystate Hospital in Springfield, MA, retiring in 2000. After 40 years of Nursing, the last years of her career were spent caring, with loving hands and a loving heart, for the babies who entered this world prematurely. She was predeceased by her husband, Francis Shea of Holyoke, MA. Carol leaves behind to cherish her memory, her daughter, Maura Shea of Holyoke, her sister, Joyce Coupal, her niece, Cheryl Patenaude, two great nieces, Alyssa and Lindsay Patenaude, a great nephew, Brett Patenaude and many special cousins and friends including her lifelong friend, Laura Corriveau. She also leaves her pet schnauzer, Allie. Carol enjoyed 10 pin bowling, proudly accomplishing a 242 score in league play. She enjoyed traveling, taking a very memorable trip to Hawaii to visit close friends. She also traveled with her husband to Ireland, the Caribbean and Spain; and especially liked her summers in Lake George, NY. She was an avid Springfield Indians Hockey Fan, never missing a game. Carol will always be remembered as a kind, loving, gentle person, beloved by all who knew her. She suffered for many years from the severe pains of arthritis, she suffered uncomplaining, with dignity and courage, with the heart of a lion. A Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, May 15, 2019 from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. at the Barry J. Farrell Funeral Home, 2049 Northampton Street followed by burial in St. Rose Cemetery in South Hadley. Calling hours will be held on Tuesday, May 14, 2019 from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations in Carol?s memory may be made to the Baystate Children?s Hospital, Attn: Davis Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, 759 Chestnut Street, Springfield, MA 01199.
