YAKIMA - Pearl Lydia (Gamache) Cavin of Wapato, WA, passed away at 6:00 p.m. on Friday, June 13, 2003. She had suffered a brain hemorrhage at home, early that morning, and died peacefully in her sleep at Providence Hospital surrounded by her loving husband and family.
Pearl was born to Phillip and Alexina Gamache on June 23, 1920, in Moxee, WA, and married her handsome "cowboy", Melvin James Cavin, on August 21, 1939. They had met when she was 16 and he was 22. They always said he had to wait for her to grow up so he could marry her - and he did!!
Pearl and Melvin had three children: Patricia, Dennis and Terry; and raised their family in the Lower Yakima Valley. Nine of those years were spent helping Melvin run their Hop Ranch in Grandview.
Pearl began working outside the home when Melvin fell ill for a couple of years, and then began at Del Monte cannery about 1960, and continued there for fourteen years. She was always a hard worker, and loved working in her yard and enjoyed being with her "cowboy" in the home that they built themselves.
They had great adventures being "Snowbirds" for about 20 years; met many people, and made many wonderful friends.
She is survived by her beloved husband, Melvin; her children and their spouses, Patricia & Mike Stegeman of Grandview, Dennis & Marilyn Cavin of Prosser, and Terry & Penny Cavin of Moxee; nine grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; many nieces and nephews; and her brother, Leslie Gamache. She was preceded in death by her parents, Phillip and Alexina Gamache; two sisters, Emma and Cecelia; and one brother, Ernie.
Recitation of the Rosary will be held Monday, June 16, at 7:00 p.m. at the Yakima Chapel of Valley Hills Funeral Home, 2600 Business Lane, Yakima. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday, June 17, at 2:00 p.m. at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Moxee. Interment will follow at Holy Rosary Cemetery, Moxee.
