Roger Louis Champoux, 82, of Yakima, passed away Friday, April 8, 2016 at his home surrounded by his loving family.
Roger was born December 31, 1933 in Yakima to Oliver Phillip and Irene Hope (Desmarais) Champoux. Roger was raised and educated in Yakima, graduating from Marquette High School in 1952. He enlisted in the U.S. Army and served in Boblingen, Germany until his discharge in 1956. On May 15, 1965 he married Lois Marie Hanses in Yakima.
Roger was an orchardist for many years in the Lower Valley and retired in 1992. He especially enjoyed spending time with his family. Roger was an avid golfer, having three hole in ones! He was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church, Mt. Adams Country Club, the Elks Lodge and the Knights of Columbus. He also enjoyed watching the Mariners and Seahawks play. He will be deeply missed.
Survivors include his children, Lori & Pat Gibbons and Sandy Champoux, all of Yakima and Kelly Champoux of Seattle; four grandchildren, Hannah & Evan Gibbons, and Ryan & Courtney Engquist; also sisters, Phyllis & David Tri and Diane Sweeny, both of Yakima; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Lois Champoux on September 23, 2008, a daughter, Mary Elizabeth Champoux and a sister, Nadine Champoux.
Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be Monday, April 18, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, Moxee. Inurnment will be in Holy Rosary Cemetery at 1:30 p.m. Those planning to attend the cemetery service should meet at the cemetery.
