Alexander "Xan" Spotswood, 72, of Orange, died Saturday, October 17, 2015 at his residence.
Born on April 13, 1943 in Richmond, he was the son of the late Harrison Payne and Edith Brown Spotswood. Xan was also preceded in death by his wife, Doris Wood Spotswood.
Xan was a direct decendant of Governor Alexander Spotswood. He was retired from Verizon, a life member of the Orange Volunteer Fire Company, a member of the Orange Jaycees, a member of American Legion Post # 156, and the Hog Camp.
He is survived by a son, Alexander Spotswood II and wife, Joy, of Louisa; a daughter, Jennifer S. Gamache and husband, Marc, of Richmond; and five grandchildren, Jordan, Ellie and Sylvia Spotswood and Cate, and Andrew Gamache.
A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 24 from Preddy Funeral Home, 250 West Main Street in Orange. Interment of cremains to follow at Graham Cemetery. Don Hughes will officiate.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service.
The family has requested that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to the Hospice of the Piedmont, 675 Peter Jefferson Place, Charlottesville, VA 22911, or the Orange Volunteer Fire Company, P.O. Box 367, Orange, VA 22960.
Arrangements are being made by Preddy Funeral Home, Orange.
