WILFRED GEORGE BURGAN, JR. "Bill"

Wilfred G. "Bill" Burgan, an aeronautical engineer who spent his entire career with Lockheed-Martin Co. died December 14, 2013 in Solomons, MD. He was 94.
Born in Washington, DC he attended Sacred Heart Academy Grade School and then went on to St. John's College High School. After graduating from Catholic University with his engineering degree in 1941 he joined the Glenn L. Martin Co. in Baltimore. During the war he worked on several warplanes including the B-24. After the war he worked on the development of the P-6M Sea Master, the largest seaplane ever built.
In 1959 Mr. Burgan and his family were transferred to Martin-Orlando where he spent the rest of his career, designing air-to-ground missiles such as the Bullpup, which saw extensive use in Vietnam.
His first wife Ann Zinn Burgan died in 1984, He remarried in 1986 to Ethel Grace Burgan. She died in 2011. He was predeceased by his brother Elmer and three of his sisters: Mary, Dorothy and Regina. He is survived by his youngest sister, Sister Maria Burgan S.S.N.D.
Survivors also include his daughter, Katherine Burgan Gamache of Yorktown Heights, New York; and six sons, John U. Burgan of Solomon's, MD, Robert F. Burgan of Portland, OR, Steven J. Burgan of Orlando, FL, Michael V. Burgan of California, MD, William F. Burgan of Palm Harbour, FL and Richard G. Burgan of Orlando, FL: plus 13 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
