Robert A. Gamache, 84 (Oct. 23, 1929), of Harriman, formerly of Daytona Beach, Fla., passed away Sunday, Sept. 14, 2014, at Halifax Health Medical Center in Daytona Beach.
Mr. Gamache, a war veteran, served his country in the United States Navy aboard the aircraft carrier USS Oriskany during the Korean War. He went on to become a long-haul trucker, retiring from the trucking industry at age 76, a job he truly loved. He loved his dog, Chief, NASCAR, football and was a dedicated family man.
Survivors include two sons, Robert A. Gamache Jr. (Diane), Columbiana, Ala., and Brian Gamache (Janetta), Edgewater, Fla.; two daughters, Adrienne Fuller (Tim), Midtown, and Alison Gamache, Port Orange, Fla.; a brother, Phillip Gamache (Maria), Georgia; a twin sister, Roberta Ports, Georgia; his grandchildren, Heather, Kasey, Melissa, Gabriel, Nicole, Ginger, Grant, Alicia, Justin, Brianna and Dylan; 10 great-grandchildren; his devoted dog, Chief; and numerous nephews and nieces.
He was preceded in death by his devoted wife of 60 years, Joan H. Gamache; a brother, Armand Gamache; and a sister, Yvonne Treshel.
Memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 20, at the Settle-Wilder New Smyrna Beach, Fla., Chapel. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to East Tennessee Border Collie Rescue, 242 Joel Road, Oliver Springs, TN 37840.
