Saranac Lake ? Michael D. Dupree, age 47, of 263 Lake Flower Ave., Saranac Lake, died Tuesday, April 12, 2005, in Key West, Fla. At the time of his death, Mike was enjoying a wonderful vacation with his wife and close friends, Liz (Wiles) Kinney and her husband James. Mike had just returned to the boat from an incredible time of snorkeling on the Coral Reef in Key West and was enjoying watching the view of the ocean when he died very peacefully from heart complications related to a long history of diabetes.
Born in Saranac Lake, N.Y., on Aug. 25, 1957, the son of Robert and Patricia (Quigley) Dupree. Michael married Ann Peightal on Dec. 11, 1982, in Saranac Lake.
Mike was a life long resident of Saranac Lake and was currently working for the Town of Harrietstown Housing Authority. Prior to that, he had worked for Pine Ridge Cemetery Association for many years and he had operated his own burial vault company. He also had worked for the Olympic Regional Development Authority during the 1980 Winter Olympics as a driver for the New Zealand Olympic Team. Mike was a self employed carpenter and was well known for his craftsmanship and Adirondack furniture. He also had been a caretaker for three great Adirondack camps for several years and had passed the tradition onto his son, Jon.
Mike is a past member of the Saranac Lake Moose Club. He coached modified lacrosse in Saranac Lake with his good friend Les Farrell and had founded the S.L. Lacrosse Booster Club. Mike also had coached Little League baseball for several years. He had volunteered for ORDA for many years at various events, including Ironman, the Great Outdoor Games, Ski Jump markers, Stars on Ice and all of the USA Women
