Bernie Patnode
October 4, 1933 - January 25, 2006
EVERETT - Bernie peacefully passed away from complications following open heart surgery. He was surrounded by his family who all loved him dearly.
Born October 4, 1933 to Amie and Jenny Patnode in Yakima, Washington, he attended grade school in Harrah, WA and graduated from Marquette High School in Yakima, WA in 1951. Bernie married Leta Gamache in 1953 (divorced 1969). They had 4 children together. During this time, Bernie and his brother Dewey owned and operated a family business from 1958 to 1969 in Harrah, WA called Patnode's Locker's and Market. Bernie's interests led him to become an electrician during this time.
In 1970, Bernie met a young widow, Genelia Harris. She turned out to be the love of his life and they married in 1971. With Bernie's 4 children and Genelia's 7, it was a houseful! Together they started several businesses that provided electrical services regionally and statewide. These projects included the circle irrigation systems in the Columbia Basin, the Seattle bus tunnel and rewiring of the State Capital Chandelier Rotunda. Semi-retired in 1990, they moved to Daytona Beach Florida and operated two businesses for home repair and artistic works they crafted. Bernie's love of people and medicine led him to pursue a nursing career in which he graduated and was licensed as an LPN in 1998. Bernie received his degree with pride and excitement to a standing ovation as he was on the Deans List, had the most children and was the only one in his class on Medicare. Bernie actively worked as an LPN when they moved back to Washington State in 1998. Bernie worked at Delta Rehab in Snohomish until poor health forced him to retire.
Bernie was a wonderful husband to Genelia and Father to all 11 of his children. His easy going way, kindness, generosity, sense of humor and love of story telling will be remembered and missed by his family and many friends. He never met a stranger he didn't know and was never afraid to try something new. Things were not important to him, people were.
Bernie is survived by his wife of 35 years, Genelia, his sister Judy Montgomery and his brother Duane Patnode, ten children, Terri Quenzer, Marc Patnode, Steve Patnode, Diane Stuvland, Judy Brian, David Harris (deceased) Debbie Grillo, Julie Benedictson, Connie Wellner, Dyann Kanzler and Kim Zimmerman, 22 grand children and 10.5 great grand children.
There will be a Celebration of Life on Saturday, Feb. 11, 2006 at 10:30 AM at the Lynwood Unity Church 16727 Alderwood Mall Parkway, Lynwood, WA. A reception will follow at Silver Shores Mobile Estates Club House, 11622 Silverlake Road, Everett, WA.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be to The American Heart Association or to The Providence Foundation in Everett, Washington.
