Ray John Gamache
Services have been held for former Pike Lake resident Ray John Gamache. He died July 5, 2000 in Franciscan Health Center. He was 77.
He was born in Duluth and was a 1942 graduate of Denfeld High School. From 1940 to 1946, he pitched for the American Legion Junior Baseball Club and the West Duluth Cubs.
After signing a contract in 1940 with the National Association Professional Baseball League, he played for the Grand Forks Chiefs and the Duluth Dukes.
In 1943, he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force and was a staff sergeant as a physical training instructor in Miami Beach, Fla. After his discharge, he returned to baseball until 1946. He later became a member of retail clerks, working many area businesses, retiring from Anderson Furniture Co.
He is survived by his sisters Joyce (Neil) McNeil and Louana Johnson, his children John (Alma) Gamache, Jean Ksicinski and Gary (Shannon) Gamache, grandchildren Misty, Ray, Andrew, James, Dan, Amanda, Mike and T.J. and his special companion Gloria Christensen.
Burial was in Oneota Cemetery. Arrangements were made by Bell Brothers Funeral Directors.
