Obituary for Orville A. Winters
Orville A. Winters
84, of Iron Mountain, passed away on Saturday, July 18, 2015 at MaryHill Manor in Niagara. He was born on April 3, 1931 in Iron Mountain, MI, son of the late Clyde and Edith (Cameron) Winters. Orville was raised in Iron Mountain and was a 1950 graduate of Iron Mountain High School. Following his graduation Orville and his lifelong friend, Hector "Bucky" LaVigne joined the United States Air Force. He served from 1950-58 during the Korean War as a radio repairman. After his honorable discharge from the Air Force Orville returned to Iron Mountain. He spent the majority of his adult life as an appliance repairman. He worked many years for Andreini Appliance and Furniture and later owned and operated Winters Appliance Repair. Orville had many other skills and in the late 1960's built his family a new home mainly by himself with some help from family and friends. At the end of his working years, he did service work for Peninsula Beverage, and following his retirement became the custodian for St. Mary Queen of Peace Church in Kingsford. His passion for much of his life was golf. He spared no expense when it came to golf and especially enjoyed time spent on the golf course and with his friends afterward in the clubhouse. Orville loved his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Even as his life light was fading, he would smile when he would hear his great-grandson Bryce's voice.
In addition to his parents, Orville was preceded in death by three brothers, Clyde, Gene and Duane Winters, and two sisters, Joan Johnson and Janelle Krueger.
Orville is survived by his children, Teresa (Patrick) Lyons of Royal Oak, MI, Charles Winters of Iron Mountain and Beth (Bob) Lindeman of Iron Mountain; brother, Glenn (Cherie) Winters of Kingsford; sister, Faith King of Mesick, MI; grandchildren, Julie (Brent) Mosser, Joseph Lyons, Charles Winters Jr., Kayla (Andrew) Johnson, Rachael Winters and Megan (Brandon) Spigarelli; great-grandchildren, Caden Lyons, Bryce Johnson, Gavin Winters and Ethan Carlson.
Visitation will be held on Monday, July 20th from 3:00-5:00 pm at Erickson-Rochon & Nash Funeral Home of Iron Mountain. Memorial services will follow at 5:00 pm Monday at the funeral home. Rev. James Lindgren will officiate. Burial will be in Iron Mountain Cemetery Park.
