L'ANSE/RAYMBAULTON - Leona Viginia (Imperati) Boggio,91, of Calumet (Raymbaulton) and L'Anse, passed away Thursday, December 2, 2004, at Our Lady of Mercy Convalescent Home in Hubbell where she was a resident for three weeks.
Leona was born on May 8, 1913, in Calumet, and daughter of Pasquale and Elizabeth (Rinali) Imperati and attended local schools.
She was married to Joseph Boggio on August 3, 1940, at St. Mary's Church in Calumet. He preceded her in death on April 20, 1997. For years, Leona was a election inspector for Calumet Township usually at St. Anthony Hall of the original Sacred Heart Church. Leona worked for the Public Schools of Calumet as hot lunches began to appear in schools by serving hot sandwiches in the lunchroom of Calumet High School. She also worked for the Marson's at Pat's Market in Laurium.
Leona enjoyed playing cards and socializing with the Happy 12 card group. She was a kind, loving person who always had a smile and friendly word for everyone. In 1975, she and her husband Joe, moved to L'Anse to be with her sister, Amelia, and to assist in raising Amelia's special son, Terry. Since Amelia's death in 1989, Leona had been Terry's guardian and she devoted her life to his care. Also preceding her in death were her parents; brothers, Geno, Amerigo, and Sam; and sister Amelia Huot.
Leona is survived by her Goddaughter, Phyllis (Anthony) LOcatelli; nephew and Godson, Gene (Myra) Imperati,; nephews, Ronald (Barbara) Imperati, Samuel Imperati, James (Ann) Boggio, Terrance Huot; a niece, Karen (Roger) Stafford; sister-in-law, Clarice Imperati; brother-in-law, Dominic (Jean) Boggio; extended family, Bob Huot, Percie Lee (Dan) Grandy;several grand nieces, nephews and cousins, locally and in Italy.
Visitation will be at the Erickson-Crowley Funeral Home in Calumet on Friday, Dec. 10, 2004 from 4 until 8 pm or at www.ericksoncrowley.com.
A prayer service will be held on Friday at 7:45 pm. A mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, December 11, 2004, at 10 m in St. Paul the Apostle Church in Calumet with Fr. Anthony Mannarkulam to officiate. Burial will be in the Lake View Cemetery in Calumet.
Inlieu of other expressions of sympathy, the family suggests memorials in Leona's name be given to the Keeweenaw Heritage Center at St. Anne's, c/o Calumet Township, 25880 Red Jacket road, Calumet, Michigan49913
