Mrs. William J. Shadwell (nee. Laura A. Rodgers), age 78, passed away Monday morning , November 6, 1944.
She had been bedfast for five weeks at the family home, four miles west of Effingham, but she bore her sickness with great spirits.
She was born September 14, 1866 at Spencer, Indiana. Laura A. Rodgers and William J. Shadwell were married on September 25, 1887 in Indiana.
They were the parent of 16 children. Five have preceded her in death.
Mrs. Shadwell is survived by her husband, William; six sons, Harry, Earl, Ernest, Ralph, Albert and Trobia, all of Effingham; one adopted son, Frank Beever, who is serving his country in North Africa; five daughters, Mrs. Carrie Conner, Mrs. Leitha Jewell. Mrs. Lucy Larimer, Mrs. Blanche Cornell, and Mrs. Vesta (Bess) Higgenbotham, also all of Effingham. She also leaves 63 grandchildren, 32 great grand-children.
Thirteen of her grandsons are now serving their country in the military, nine of which are overseas. She also has a host of nieces and nephews, besides many other relatives and friends who are left to mourn her death.
She was a great lover of children, a faithful wife and mother and will be sadly missed by all who knew her.
Two brothers, Charles Rodgers and Edward Rodgers, of Jasonville, Indiana, and two sisters, Mrs. Louise Parr of Shelburn, Indiana and Mrs. Lillie Johnson, of Jasonville, Indiana also survive Mrs. Shadwell.
Her parents, three sisters, four brothers and five children preceded her in death.
Funeral services were conducted Wednesday morning at the Methodist Church in Funkhouser by minister's, Rev. Leight and Rev. Peters, with burial at the Funkhouser Cemetery.

We know that you'll miss her, We know that you'll mourn, We know there's a vacancy in your home. Come unto Me did our Savior not say, and it's meant for such people as sleep here today.
Her parents were Joel Nelson Rodgers born May 27, 1827 in Kentucky and Sarah Ann Bault born September 4, 1832 in Adair County Kentucky.
