LEWISTON ? Florence M. Blanchard, 83, of Peru, died March 11 at Central Maine Medical Center after a long struggle with cancer.
She was born Aug. 20, 1925, in Rumford, the daughter of Henry and Philomene Arsenault. She attended Rumford schools and married Joseph T. Blanchard Jr. on Oct. 6, 1951.
She was employed at Oxford Paper for several years and was later employed at Food Town in Rumford. She was a woman of many talents and had many interests including travel, knitting, sewing, cross-stitching, playing cards and fishing on Mooselook Lake.
She enjoyed skiing at Sunday River long after her retirement, and in her later years, she became a master quilter. She was a member of the Daughters of Isabella, Ladies of the Lake Quilters and the Mountain Area Quilters. Her love of family and friends, zest for life, and motivation to achieve her goals will always be remembered and admired by all who knew her.
She is survived by two daughters, Elaine Gamache and husband, Kim, of Saratoga Springs, N.Y., and Susan Tozier and husband, Daniel, of Peru; a son, James Blanchard, of Groton, Conn.; and four grandchildren, David and Michael Tozier, Andrea Fanos and Mark DeSio.
She was predeceased by her husband, Joe on Feb. 3, 1994; her parents; brothers, Euclide, Melvin and Lionel; and sisters, Anna and Lydia.
