On October 19, 2012, Sister Berthe Gamache died peacefully at Youville Auxiliary Hospital, St. Albert, AB, at the age of 94 years. Born in Brousseau, AB, on October 10, 1918, she joined the Grey Nuns where she rendered multiple services as a seamstress for the Sisters, as well as, teaching sewing, embroidery and weaving to young women in La Loche and Ile-à-la-Crosse, SK, Blue Quills, Lac Ste-Anne and St. Albert, AB. For many years, her joy was to fill Christmas hampers with quilts and baby clothing to help Birthright, Wings of Providence and families in need.
Sister Berthe will be remembered by her Sisters, the Grey Nuns; her brothers, Didier (Madeleine) and André (Rita); and many nieces and nephews whom she dearly loved.
The Grey Nuns express their deep gratitude to the nursing staff of the Youville Home, St. Albert for their dedicated and compassionate care throughout Sister Berthe?s illness.
Father Joseph Goutier OMI will celebrate a Mass of Christian Burial on Wednesday October 24, 2012, at 2:00 p.m. at the Youville Home Chapel, 9A St. Vital Avenue, St. Albert, AB. Interment to follow at the St. Albert Catholic Cemetery.
